6 oz sample pour into an American Tumbler. The true name of the beer is Bent River Berry Weiss and it rotates with 3 other berry flavors. The brewer just adds syrup to the hefe.
A - Hazy yellow straw color with a white foamy head. Good level of retention with spots of lacing on the glass. Like the hefe, it could possibly be the glass or more likely the amount of the pour.
S - Wet blueberries sprinkled with sugar cover up the banana and clay yeast aromas almost fully. The wheat pokes through ever-so-slightly.
T - Sugary, syrupy blueberries with the mild hefe background. Light bananas and clay earthiness with a touch of wheat. While it's not overly sugary, it definitely comes from a syrup concentrate rather than fresh berries.
M - Creamy and smooth, it's mouthfeel is a bit thicker than the light-bodied hefe from the left-over sugars.
D - It's a nice try at the fruit beer category but it lacks in real flavor. The syrup used comes through as syrup, not fresh fruit. Although it makes sense economically to use the syrup in a place like this.
