Scuttlebutt Brewing Co. "KEXP Transistor IPA"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle without production codes or freshness dating
$2.29 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: While I have no idea how old this beer is (thank you Scuttlebutt for not dating your product) I'm guessing it's old because of the massive head and thousands of tiny upward streaming bubbles. There's a lot of yeast in there - it's not just cloudy, it's murky. I'm just waiting now for the head to die down... ... ... OK, I got it all in after about 7 minutes. It's an ugly looking glass of beer. It's a murky amber-orange with golden highlights towards the bottom of the glass, topped by a yellowed off-white cap that looks like meringue or fresh dog crap, you take your pick. It doesn't have a very strong aroma, and certainly not one that's hoppy. I get sweetish caramel malt, some fruitiness, and just a hint of yeast. On to the flavor... well, that's pretty much the same. In fact, everything I wrote about the aroma I'd just repeat here. I am finding some hops though, although they're really not that clear: citrusy, piney, and a bit earthy and spicy. It's better than I thought it would be based on the appearance and aroma, and I should also point out that the head retention and lacing are both great, so there's that. In the mouth it's medium bodied with a very fine-bubbled, gently crisp and then smooth carbonation - I have to give them props for that. So what are my final thoughts on this beer? It's a bit sweet for an IPA, but it does finish dry, there is some bitterness there, and it lingers. It lacks hops in both the flavor and the aroma (more the aroma), but it could probably pass as an English-style IPA. Not bad in the end.

This one was par for the course on Scuttlebutt's IPA list. It was an expected color with a one and a half finger head and smelled and tasted like every IPA you ever forgot about. I'd provide more details but I just finished it and forgot about it.

Poured from a chilled can into a cold pint glass, deep goldenrod in color with about a 3/4” and solid haze non-transparent, different for a beer this deep in color. Not too fragrant, mellow sweet smell with tropical notes. Tastes like it smells, mellow and sweet with some alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium body with bite of carbonation. I like hazy beers and I like this, especially for $1.95 in a pint can.

I enjoyed the beer to the extent that a malt-head can enjoy this IPA. (So sorry, no review.)
For all the ways local breweries help their community, this is the most creative... to support a radio station that focuses on alternatives to mainstream pap. Isn't that what craft brewing is about ? Big, very unusually big OA hugs to Scuttlebutt.

This is good! Honestly, it smells really floral but not even in a hop way. Sweet. Yellowish orange. A tiny bit malty but not in a bad way! Not super hoppy but you can still taste it.

Golden hue, with some not-unexpected cloudiness. After poured and head settled, I noted slight bitterness to the nose. Enjoyable taste, somewhat light but full with enough bitterness to remind you this is an IPA - includes some ever-so-slight sweet or ester flavor, which I enjoy. Ever since trying at the Scuttlebutt tap room, I find myself purchasing bottles frequently at local stores over all the other IPA choices available. Also great way to support KEXP radio station.

a dark and cloudy straw color, with a big foamy head. Aroma is sour, but my sample might be off, as what I am smelling no one else is. Flavor is sweet, with very little hop bite, almost a light beer. Mouthfeel is much heavier than the light taste, which is strange. I think I got a bad batch...

The best IPA Scuttlebutt has brewed. As a specialty with a portion of proceeds going to KEXP radio station, this IPA is currently one of my favorite go-to's. I am from WA so the beer is fresh, not dated, or having any off-flavors. Freshly brewed this is a good beer. Golden delicious, balanced hops, mild and wonderful.

Poured from undated glass bottle.
(L) The color is dark straw with suspended specks floating through out. (Is this unfiltered?!?) (A) Smell is slight. Mostly pine, citrus, and grassy hops. (T) Taste follows aroma but more bitter. (F) Medium bodied.
I'm thinking this beer was no good. Sad. It's a great radio station and I would've loved to support them more.

Golden and translucent.
Glacier and nugget hops create piney and citrus aromatics and flavor with some added spiciness.
Overall, this is an adequately hopped, refreshing IPA!
