So right off the bat, this is a Grisette. I went with Belgian Saison as the style as I believe this is closer to that than a biere de garde (the next closest thing). Had this on tap at Foam Brewing in October 2019. 1st review of this beer on BA.
Poured yellow with sizeable 4/5" virgin white head. Pretty sexy looker, good crisp clarity on it. Then it swung back the other way as clearly a pungent belgo yeast pushed the phenolic band aid and belgo spice clove rack up my nose. At this point I was like "dammit".
Taste kept pushing the belgian yeast harder and at the expense of everything else. The beer lacked pretty much any tartness, and became more of a belgian table beer with the heftiest of almost belgo tripel yeasts out there. The body was still crisp, light and enjoyable. Real mixed bag here, looks good, nice pilsner malt usage, hops are in the right proportion, good dry and crisp mouthfeel, carbonation right on, but that damn spicy clove yeast really dampens my enthusiasm for this one.
