Black as night with little to no head or lacing. Honey, smoke. dark chocolate, burnt bread and vanilla. The taste follows the nose here. Lots of caramel and chocolate with some honey and smokiness. The mouthfeel is a bit flat but the flavor compensates well. Overall a tasty brew.

The founder of my home brew club was one of the brewers of this beer. It's actually 12% alcohol, not 7.3 as is currently listed at the time of my posting. I have submitted an "update request" so we'll see what happens.

Had this on-tap out of his kegorator at our latest meeting. Pours dark as hell, with a mountainous mocha head, great lacing as well.

Lots of dark fruit on the nose, perhaps some malts as well.

Tastes very smooth, alcohol is very well hidden (until you try to stand up later). Nice balance of malts and fruit.

Mouthfeel is quite light given the ABV. Medium carbonation as well. Again, very smooth. This may have been my first baltic porter, I wasn't expecting something so smooth.

Dangerously drinkable. Absolutely fantastic beer. I'm proud to say I know one of the guys who brewed it!

Oh, and a few reviews below me that guy named doubleJ.. I don't know if he was joking or not about expecting a golden ale, but this baltic porter is actually a lager.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is very faint with some darker malts. The flavor is heavily roasted malts with some coffee and is quite bitter. Thin-medium, slightly watery mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Beer Camp #14 created this Baltic Porter. 7.3% abv. It's the most talked about beer camp beers. It poured eclipse black. It had roasted malt, molasses, espresso and chocolate aromas. It tasted like molasses, malt, toffee, and some hop bitterness. It had a buttery aftertaste.

A - Impenetrable black, good tan head, nice retention and lace. 4.0

S - lots of roastiness and a hint of caramel. 3.5

T - Creamy and similar to the smell, but with a hint of blackberries too. 4.0

M - rich, full bodied, and well carbonated. very smooth. 4.5

D - high, hint of warmth in the finish adds to the experience. 4.0

Based on the name, I would have thought I was ordering a golden ale. Instead, I get a dark ale. On-tap at Naja's, on to the beer:

It is ink black in color, head retention and lacing are good. The aroma was a let down because it was on the weaker side. Pine is what I thought when I smelled it.

It's supposedly a Baltic Porter, so then why does it taste like a Black IPA for the first half, then like Anchor's Winter Ale during the second half? It's not what I was expecting, but it is tasty overall. Big piney hops upfront in this beer. Smei-sweet chocolate is coutesy of the dark malt. As the beer is allowed to warm, prunes, plums, and figs come out big in this beer. A sprinkle of cocoa sticks in the aftertaste.

It's not "true to style", but it is a yummy beer.

This beer is the result of another collaboration at Sierra Nevada "Beer School" and was served on-tap at Beachwood BBQ. Golden Ticket pours dark in color, essentially black. Thick dark head as well that displays good retention and remarkable lacing. Aromas of figs, prunes, and other dried fruits are abundant. I joked with others that this smells like a Fruit Roll-Up even.

The taste is deep with rich malts with just as many fruit notes as the nose. Grapes, prunes, figs,and more dark fruits than I can think of come together for an outstanding Baltic Porter. The fruitiness is often a nuance of the style, but here it defined the beer for me in a good way. While I am gushing about the dark fruits, it still has a nice bitter finish to it, the dark malts rounding out the flavors well. Full bodied, not quite chewy, served with a low level of carbonation that is just right. Very delicious.
