The foundation of this fine West Coast style IPA is built upon Pilsner, Munich and acidulated malts. This brew unfolds on the pallet and the nose with a wonderful bouquet of layered hops; Citra, Amarillo & Strata. The mouthfeel stretches out to the outside and leaves a delightful saturation of dankness. SRM floats around 5.5 and carbonation is light. A nice thing of beauty and a nice additon to KRBC's resume of amazing IPA's.

Pours an effervescent & ever so slightly chill hazed gold with a thumb of pearl colored head. very good head retention & lacing

S: Some citrus, a little breadyness. Breadyness picks up once warm

T: Very dry grapefruit, breadyness, grassyness & limes up front. Cakeyness, grapefruit, dryness, some woody/piney hops as well as this beer warms up. Finishes cakey with a little pineapple, pineyness & limes

MF: Medium body, subdued carbonation

Good old school, no nonsense West Coast IPA, nice drinkability

2023 Vintage

Appearance: Clear yellow color with a modest-sized white head that subsided fairly quickly. A nice-looking IPA.

Smell: Pine aromas dominate with a hint of citrus fruit.

Taste: The flavor profile features moderately bitter pine hop notes and faint sweet citrus fruit notes. The beer has a West Coast bitter hop backbone, and the beer finishes fairly dry ending with some mildly bitter hop notes.

Mouth-feel: Fairly light-bodied with a modest level of carbonation.

Overall: A good IPA that is true to the old school, West Coast style.

Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $3.49
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Jan. 28, 2021
Consumed: Jan. 30, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Jan. 6, 2021

Grabbed a can of this and a host of others on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Online description I found was “On a piece of paper, hanging on our wall is a drawing my eight-year-old daughter made in 2019. It is a picture of a bird with hearts and simply read, “It seems like the end, therefore it is just the beginning”. It is the perfect reminder for us, in a crazy world and a crazy time, to notice the beauty around us every day. It is still there and always will be.” Mentioned hops were Citra, Amarillo and Strata.

Poured a semi-clear light amber color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Some bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled pretty good from the beginning. Got Amarillo, black pepper, orange peel, tangerine, grapefruit rind, Citra, Strata, weed, passion fruit and mixed berry. Not quite as good from the can but got some earthy pilsner malt. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste wasn’t as good as the nose. Definitely a West Coast IPA though. Got Amarillo, black pepper, orange peel, tangerine, caramel, grapefruit rind, Strata, Citra, mango, passion fruit and mixed berry. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.50)

For a West Coast IPA, this was outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)

Slight haze on the amber brew with a sturdy pile of foam in the Bacchus tumbler. Distinct hoppy aroma, a perfumey pungency that makes me think of fresh Cascades. Taste is fruity in a slightly peculiar way. Orange juice with burlap and a touch of grape jelly. This has the fresh hop herbal note.

Moderate acidity, astringent finish, and a slight bitter aftertaste. Hops are listed as Citra, Amarillo, and Strata. Not one of my favorites, though some good aroma. From the 16 oz can purchased from Bine & Vine. "Canned on 01/06/21" on the bottom.

One of my favorite Twilight Episodes is “Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.” And it makes Raul think: Does this beer stack up against it? Almost. This isn’t a “best of the best” Kern beer like that TZ episode, but it’s still damn good. Hell, this still makes my lincoln log go ‘boooooing!’ it’s that good. Kern River is just damn good at what they do. And I’m here for it.

See ya!

The more I drink, the more this one bangs.
