Darker blue than its base, it has even become a purplish-black, while still building a tall pastel mauve head that slowly settles to a thick creamy blanket leaving tall wavy arms of lace.
This exhibits that unique honey flavor that regular bourbon barrel Turbo also has, which is reminiscent of a John Daly, but the explosion of juicy tart blueberry obviously intervenes. Furthermore, the finish being quite dry adds additional contrast, coming across as uniquely tannin heavy, even exhaling a hint of merlot.
The aroma adds a bit more of a savory element from the barrel--honestly I'm shocked there's this much barrel--it's a little like walnut with a touch of splintery ash, but again that honey character coming in from I don't know where is intense!

Opening a second bomber 4 months later, I'm finding it to be developing quite a bit more in the bottle than Hoppin Frog beers typically do, especially this early on. It's got notes of maple raisin now, and I think it may even be drier of tannins--almost chewy--than it was at release. The honey note is largely gone, and I think that may actually be doing it a favor. This is damn near blueberry wine.
---
Over a year later, in June of 2022, there is an express character of vanillin amidst the tannin now, where any semblance of dark fruit now seems to have been replaced by a little tingly heat. This is drinking damn well right now.
I can't believe I'm holding on to fruited shandy for so long, but it's paying off unbelievably well, and I still have one more bomber. If it tasted like this right out the gate, it'd be a 4.5+ easy.
