A super complex, super-satisfying character is imparted from both Rocky Mountain and Irish 100% malt whiskey barrels. Together they add unique, very nice, smooth and spicy flavors to our rich and roasty triple imperial stout.

Drank 12/25/25. Can has best by 11/22/25
Pour is jet black with a huge, dense, deeply brown head. Beautiful pour. Half finger of foam with good retention.
Nose is soft bourbon, vanilla, chocolate,
Taste follows. Bourbon, bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, coffee, roasted malt, some ash, char, nice warming alcohol. Some of the irish whiskey flavors definitely come through. Interesting balance with the bourbon.
Smooth, creamy body. full bodied. Not overly sweet - obviously a lot of malt goes into this, but nicely balanced.

Overall a very good beer. A bit more alcohol than is typical for this ABV beer, though not so high as to appreciably detract from the drinking experience.
The Irish whiskey notes are definitely present and make an interesting and unique presentation when combined with the bourbon barrel aging.

Can: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with light retention and minor lacing notes. Aroma of black chocolate notes with some vanilla and huge bourbon and barrel notes. Taste is also a complex mix of black chocolate notes with some heavy bourbon and woody notes with light vanilla notes also perceptible. Body is pretty full with oily texture and medium carbonation with some very clear warming alcohol notes. Extreme barreled stout which is a nice nightcap.

16oz can served in a snulip. Can is dated Best By Nov 22 2025. @ozzylizard sent it to me in an aftershock sneak attack in NBS BIF #17.

Pours perhaps the blackest I have ever seen a beer pour, with a strikingly dark head that emerges after the pour, grows impressively, and settles in a dark tan ring with a cohesive but very thin island with one stubborn bubble in the center that is about five times the size of its neighbors. Smell is powerful booze and char, burnt molasses, black licorice.

Taste is intense -- the first few seconds on my palate cycled through screaming booze to screaming dark roast coffee to screaming dark chocolate. Feeling around in the corners, there's toffee and vanilla sweetness, an elusive hint of smoke.

Mouthfeel is thick, satisfying, chewy, smooth, a bit sticky -- all very appropriate. Overall, this is great.

16 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 11/22/22, had 12/23/22.

Pours near black and opaque, thick looking, with no head and only a little oily smear on the glass. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, whiskey, oak, vanilla. Has a spicy aroma as it warms. Flavors of spicy whiskey, oak, malt, chocolate, some vanilla, light char. Smooth, a solid full body, appropriately carbonated.

Wish I bought more than one can. Terrific barrels that are so spicy. Fairly straightforward, with focused aromas and flavors that burst forth. Let this fully warm.

Rocky Mountain Barrel-Aged Muileann Toir TORIS from Hoppin’ Frog. 16 oz can picked up at the brewery 24/05/23, $ 42.67 (Including tax)/four-pack - $ 0.667/fl oz. Reviewed 31/05/23 (Review 3118). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on bottom of can “BEST BY NOV 22 2025”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 57.3 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 61.3 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.5
First pour – (SRM 40), opaque.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear lite, still opaque, even at the edges.
Head: Average (Maximum 1.7 cm, aggressive center pour), burnt sienna, high density, quickly diminishing to a 0.15 cm crown and a thin partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Initially, a burst of chocolate malt which quickly fades. No hops, no yeast. Weak whiskey, no barrels. No ethanol (13.8 % ABV as marked on the label).
Flavor – 4 – Begins slightly sweet and chocolate malty, no hops, no yeast. Moderate whiskey, no barrels. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Medium gastric warming which builds.
Palate – 4.25 – Full; creamy; lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Decent iteration of T.O.R.I.S., although the Irish whiskey certainly reduces the whiskey/barrel taste without lowering the burn.

Taster at HF taproom. Near black pour, small brown head, fades to dense ring. Aroma is roasty, smoky, chocolate. Taste is roasty, sweet and strong. Alcohol seeps in from the back for a nice warmth. Really lovely how the barrels compliment each other.

Impregnable dark colored body, basically black in appearance in most light; thick, densely foamy head, light brown in color. Outstanding aroma of rich dark malts, cocoa and bittersweet chocolate; deep malt sweetness; cocoa; some wooden barrel notes lurking in the depths. Incredibly rich and complex flavors; roasted grains with a note of char; well-balanced elements of milk chocolate; excellent presence of wood-aged whiskey; a suggestion of anise and coffee; a very subtle phenol edge accents the luxurious sweetness. Heavy body; dense and velvety with residual sugars; light bite of boozy heat adds character.

This beer exudes classic Hoppin' Frog big stout character with the added bonus of nailing what I assume are American bourbon and Irish whisky barrel aging. The beer has some rock solid Russian imperial stout heart while the barrel aging notes really do come across as a nice blending of bold, biting American whiskey counterpointed with a softer Irish whisky feel and flavor. In hind sight, I shoulda bought a few more of these beers...

Glossy black with a beautiful dark brown head.

Roasty and almost smoky--and even peaty but not quite--it's savory and oaky and dry. There's a leafy element, as though on the tail end of a fallen leaf's life, transforming to a woodiness that ushers in the booze.

An incredibly unique translation.
