The color appears as a dull, orange-brown color with a thick, sticky off-white head; lots of lacing adhering to the glass. The smell exudes a sweet, ripe orange and fig-like aroma. The taste is very sour and tart. Medium body.

Well, perhaps I got a bad bottle, but the sour flavor just isn't acceptable and the aroma just doesn't jive with a brown ale character. I find very little indication of a brown ale maltiness or style in the taste. The flavor was very much of wine and green apples. Otherwise, the looks are great! But good looks don't prevent me from pouring the remains down the drain. A big disappointment as I was looking forward to a decent malt-forward brown ale.

burnt toast, such an appealing name for a brown ale, and its a pretty good one, one of the better three barrel beers I've had lately. its dark milk chocolate brown, relatively still, but with a short tan lazy head. some haze to this, but i wouldn't call it yeasty. a slightly burnt nose, but less than its name suggests. chocolate malt aromas and dark bread, fresh, without any appreciable hop profile. the taste lacks hops too, but i don't miss it because the roastiness of the malt. its bitter enough. body is medium, and while the beer isn't terribly unique, its well made, and it doesn't have any of that sweetness in the finish that the english ones sometimes do. i could drink several of these, which is more than i can say for some of the other three barrel brews. sturdy and serviceable brown ale overall. more bubbles would help it though.
