not a real nice saison for me, very little yeast profile and a ton of spice to it, oddly anise or licorice heavy, more of a winter warmer in flavor profile than a saison, and especially inappropriate in summertime, but maybe it has a role, a strong and affordable saison. better as a strong ale maybe, i never really get any yeast character. the color is dark brown, clear for the style, lets some light in when held to afternoon sunlight, but its awfully dark for a saison. a nose of wintery spices, molasses, all heavy and weighty from the grain, but not real adventurous on the yeast. on the taste i get everything from anise to black pepper to clove to heavy and slightly old ground allspice. cinnamon or cardamom too, but none of this seems to come from the yeast, almost like its added. a fuller body but too much residual sugar. the beer just doesnt work as a saison, and three barrel has yet to really impress me with their non-sour stuff. totally irrelevant beer for me, overspiced, and not real memorable.
