Seasonal Beer
Albury Ruby (Winter) - ABV 4.6%
A warming dark winter beer that has a hint of blackcurrant in the aroma. Beautifully balanced and smooth, this is a beer for the connoisseur.

Presentation: Sampled at the Compasses Inn in Gomshall, Surrey, England. This was in fact the first pint of the day during a wonderful country walk in the Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, so it seemed very fitting that the first of the days libations was to be this Winter Seasonal from the nearby Surrey Hills Brewery.
Listed as Aldbury Ruby (Winter) - ABV 4.6%, and served from the Beer Engine.
Appearance: The Surrey Hills Brewery Albury Ruby was served in tip-top form. Despite the fact that I was deep in the South of England, this looked as if it had been pulled through a Hand Pump fitted with a Sparkler, though it had not. I suspect this was a freshly tapped Cask as the highly dissolved carbonation imparted a fine conditioning throughout. Perfectly clear with a rich deep mahogany ruby hue, polished dark cherrywood and an off-white head which hung around and laced the Pint glass with a nice looking set of rings that accurately marked each mouthful. Excellent presentation.
Nose and Taste: Roasted malts, berries and lots of fruit in the aroma. The flavors benefit from a gorgeous fruity middle, reminded me of Garibaldi biscuits at times. The finish is smooth and creamy with a light dryness and a pronounced roasted bitterness in the lingering end. Very tasty stuff.
Mouthfeel: Incredibly smooth despite the higher than usual carbonation, but I wasnt complaining about that - this was a refreshing aspect and it added a light tendency to the deep fruity flavors. Nevertheless, the whole feel is solid, start to finish. Perfectly balanced.
Drinkability: Yet another Cask brew that I found to have a dangerous Drinkability. A very moor-ish offering whose smooth texture and calculated balance just adds to the sinkability factor. Beware of this one.
Overall: Superb stuff, very impressive, excellent condition and balance, and a very drinkable offering considering its high end 4.6% ABV. A great Winter brew from an impressive up-and-coming Brewery. Keep an eye out for this one.
