I have tried many different versions of the classic German Radler. This is the first one that hit the spot. It had only a tiny bit of the bitterness of the grapefruit. I found it beautifully balanced, very refreshing and very drinkable. Now a standard in my home

Can: Poured a clear golden color ale with a medium size foamy head with light retention and no lacing. Aroma of grapefruit juice with light malt notes is pleasant. Taste is a good mix of light grapefruit notes with some light malt and residual sugar notes are also perceptible. Body is light with good carbonation. Enjoyable radler with not too much residual sugar.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated May 10 2019 and served well chilled.
Pours a hazy, translucent lemondrop yellow, generating one finger of frothy, fizzy white head that sizzles off in about sixty seconds' time. A thin collar lives on, but that's it - looks about halfway between a soda and a beer, so I guess the math checks out. Slightly muted on the nose, with hints of lemon juice and pink grapefruit coming through, alongside a gritty, vaguely wheaty malt presence.
A quality radler - the red grapefruit juice is probably the most prominent aspect, with notes of lemon pith, gritty wheat and table sugar sweetness serving more as backdrop filler. Finishes with lemon zest and more pink grapefruit; there's also a subtle black peppercorn-y note in the aftertaste that I actually rather like - there's no spices listed in the ingredients, so they must've either used some particularly spicy Tettnanger hops, or I'm picking up a byproduct of the ale yeast strain they used. Light in body, with zippy, aggressive carbonation that feels prickly, just like you'd expect from something that is traditionally 50% soda. Effortlessly easy to toss back, like any decent light beer, and certainly more refreshing than an actual grapefruit soda.
Final Grade: 3.90, a B+. I've tried more than a few radlers over the last several weeks, and Beau's Organic Grapefruit is definitely one of the better ones. It tastes great, while also nailing the lively, refreshing texture that makes this style worth consuming in bulk - and I am loving that peppery note on the back end of the sip. Absolutely worth trying if you have any interest in this sort of thing.
