If you’re friends with a geologist, you know they are going to occasionally give you some choice samples of porphyritic amygdaloidal basalt they found on a hike. Well, when you’re friends with a hop farm, it’s much the same. But with cool new hop products. This is round two of FOCUS, a collaboration with Crosby Hop Farms, focusing in on their choicest Estate Grown hops and new CGX Lupulin Pellets. Bright fruit flavor and a crisp dry finish to emphasize the sweet, resinous melon flavor of Strata CGX. FOCUS is available this fall in 16 oz 4-packs all over the PNW.

Hops: Simcoe, Strata Goo, Strata,
Amarillo, Crosby Strata CGX, Motueka

Malts: Rahr Pilsner, Breiss Flaked
Rice, GM Flaked Wheat

Yeast: London 2 ESB

16oz can; crystal clear pale straw with a bright foamy white head and ample carbonation; ripe, somewhat dank and earthy nose, leans into a somewhat skunky, earthy, reefer profile, pine too I guess, light notes of pale malt, maybe grapefruit and melon. Not quite a clean and crisp beer, somewhat oily and it hangs around instead of finishing quickly and dryly. Decent, OK…maybe the hop profile isn’t for me?

Pours a bright yellow with abundant foam in the goblet. Aroma of melon with a touch of cereal and lime. Sharp and sudsy on the tongue. Flavor of sweet canteloupe and peach, and some orange peel in the finish. This is quite sharp and fairly bitter, but the fruity flavors save the day. From the 16 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Dated 08/12/24.

Clear, golden body; excellent tiny bubble carbonation; thick head, white, frothy, long-lasting. Incredible nose; soft cereal grain note infused with scents of berries and tropical fruit; perfumy. Outstanding taste that mirrors the aroma; light malt, biscuit; light fruity notes balance with the malt profile; low-key hop bitterness. Medium body; soft; gentle dryness.

This fantastic India pale ale features a collection of hops from a single farm - Crosby Hops farm. The mastery of the brewers shines throughout. Wonderful balance and in depth complexity are this beer's hallmarks. Incredibly enjoyable!

16oz can purchased at Rocket Market, high atop Spokane's South Hill. Canned on August 12, 2024, per the stamp on the bottom of the can. Was hoping this was going to be my first fresh beer of the year, but no such luck.

Good looking beer! Poured a clear, golden amber color, with a big, sudsy, bone-white head. Lots of sticky lace.

Big grapefruity and piney hop nose to this. The aroma of this beer will make any West Coast IPA fan happy.

The flavor is similar to the nose, but more complex. In addition to the grapefruti and piney elements that are emblematic of a classic wcipa, there's also a bit of stone fruit to the proceedings. Also, the finish, although far from a soft and sweet ending like in a New England style hazy, is not puckeringly dry.

Medium bodied with a mouth feel that is both resiny and a little bit creamy.

This is the best packaged IPA I have had in quite a while. I could drink the shit out of this stuff on the regular. Recommended!

16oz can served in a curvy Monhegan pint glass. Can is dated 08/12/24, bought it a few hours ago at Chuck's Hop Shop Seward Park.

Pours clear light amber-gold, medium sized dense head, moderate to high level of active carbonation. Smell is honeysuckle and lemon rind, some biscuit, generalized citrus zest bitterness.

Taste is definitely focused in on the grapefruit rind and generalized citrus zest bitterness. Floral and honeysuckle stuff is there, but that's a heck of a hop bite.

Mouthfeel is light, clean, dry, crisp. Overall, very nice WC IPA.

Purple can, from TJs.

A clear, light orange with a dense white head with excellent retention and lacing. The nose is fantastic, especially when considering that I'm still coming off a FH season high. Pure, lovely Strata character, bright, vibrant, fruity, clean with pineapple, kiwi, mild dankness with a little weed, candied orange - this is a riot of hop flavor. The palate mirrors this, with just excellent hop flavor. Bright, rich and vibrant, fruity with peach rings, melon, pineapple, a little dank weed from the Amarillo, just gorgeous, glorious stuff. Drying, clean, bitter finish. Lovely.

16oz can. No dating information found. Purchased as a single at Jane's Beer Store in Mountain View.
Slightly cloudy, straw colored body. Brief white head results in an island and a ring. Most of the lacing spots slide back down into the body, but a few are left behind.
Aroma is a balance between orange citrus and pine resin.
Taste is a total hop expression with vibrant candy like flavors of orange, melon, lemon, fragrant pine, and minor dankness. Has a very hoppy vegetal note that expands up into the nostrils. This hoppy note tastes "fresh", similar to just harvested hop brews. Bitterness is nearly nonexistent, and sweetness is also minimal. Just a very perfumy beer for flavors. Quick to exit in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Has a slight bite at the end. Okay carbonation.
The notes on the can explain that the beer is unfiltered and to expect bottom residue, but none really found for this can. Where this fits for style is difficult to say but the hops are clearly the star here, though not bitter, not overly sweet, and not fruity nor juicy. A perfume performance from hops.

Pours with a light head and a golden color. At first sip beer shows a mild citrus smell and shows a nice bite with a citrus flavor simular to a citra hop. Beer is half way between a hazy and a IPA with mild amount of bittering. The citrus body mixes with a vegatable green pepper body simular to a fresh hop beer. Most will fine its on the light side of hazys with a clean finish. I would hardily recommend the brew.
