Canned 7/27. Pours a light straw, fluffy head. Nose reminds one of a dank root cellar. Taste is effervescent and taste of hops, some fruit and a pleasant background flavor (the phantasm?). A melange of flavors, too much to describe but the net effect is nice, in a new type of taste.

this is special stuff, collaboration with e9, thanks to my buddy for bringing this over! a rye based saison with a rad hop profile accentuated by the addition of phantasm powder, not sure i have seen this in saison before, but it makes great sense, it turns something kind of rustic and old worldy into something decidedly modern, and this ends up as a flavorful and intriguing drinker, i wish we had more than one can, this would be an all nighter for me, really dig it. golden straw color and just off from clear, not quite as pale and starchy looking as expected, more than an inch of lasting sudsy white head on top, nice can conditioning on this. the nose is cool, immediately juicy and southern hemisphere on the hops to me, less familiar saison yeast notes, white winey more than anything else, less french or belgian esters, clean though, and nice with the hops, subtle as it is. green melon and pineapple notes, some herbal noble hop character in the mix too, green and white tea, verbena, lemongrass, even light dill. the grain is fuller feeling from some wheat, the rye is spicy where the yeast is not, great back and forth there and neat complexity, but really in the taste its about the hops and how they are boosted by the phantasm, they start early, hit like white smarties candy even though this beer is dry, and fruity layers of green papaya, pear, and white peach unfold over one another, really nice complexity from all of this but it does not come at the expense of balance or drinkability, the grain is there the whole way, this stays light to me, and as distinct as it is, its also a pounder, my kind of beer. just exotic enough, creamy feeling, great hop profile with the best of the old world and the new coming together, subtle fermentation profile, good rye character. this is the future of beer, and it is now!
