Michelada, O Michelada, wherefore art thou Michelada? Deny thy mass commercial appeal and refuse thy artificial flavorings. We’re not hiding from the Michelada. We’re deeply in love with it. Hopelessly star-crossed. Michelada by the Foot is a humble token of this powerful affection - brewed and offered with the sage advice and support of our friends at Great Notion and Armistice. Braced by over 500 pounds of fruit puree, nearly 200 gallons of tomato juice, hot sauce, lime juice, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, with a whole case of El Gordo Michelada Fruit Gushers thrown into the boil (for added fruitiness), this Michelada sour goes on for innumerable imperial units.

Hops: Columbus, Citra, Motueka

Malts: Rahr Pils, Weyermann Acidulated, Briess Flaked Corn

Other: El Gordo Michelada Fruit Gushers, Mango, Passionfruit, Pineapple, Hot Sauce, Soy Sauce, Worcestershire, Lime Juice, Tomato Juice

Yeast: Chico

Pours a light reddish pink with no head. Aroma is tomato, spice, and sweetness. Mouthfeel is on the light side and it I would think the consistency of the beer would be heavier due to the tomato. It tastes similar to a Bloody Maria. I'm not a big fan of tomato juice and this confirms it.

Pours a bubbly tomato juice color with no head, which is surprising, given all the bubbles. The nose is ….. tomato juice. Lots of tomato juice. There’s also something approximating fruit juice, but it doesn’t lean to the mango, passion fruit, or pineapple referenced on the can. Interesting.

The taste is straight tomato juice, salt (which I’m thinking is from the soy sauce and Worcester), and hot sauce at the back of the palate, which is actually quite nice. There’s also the slightest smidge of sour fruit.

The mouthfeel is fairly watery, which I didn’t expect with all the bubbles on the initial pour. This was an interesting spin on a cocktail, though it strays pretty far away from “beer” territory, IMHO.

Well, this is unique. You gotta say that about it, at least. Pour is a red amber with close to zero carbonation. Aroma is a muted variety of some sort of vegetation. Taste is basically a Bloody Mary , no doubt due to the 200 gallons of tomato juice plus the hot sauce and especially that Worcestershire.

We understand that the"Fruit and Field Beer" category can be stretched pretty far, and we've had a number which we thought, from the description, we would not care for but it turned out well. This is not one, at least for us.

We did a drain pour with some trepidation about the ability of our plumbing to stand up to it.

It may appeal to others, so attempt at your own risk.
