Kentucky Girl is a roasty, chocolatey, oatmeal coffee stout with a rugged bourbon kick. Brasilian Santa Luzia beans, locally roasted by Coava Coffee Roasters, add rich candy bar notes of caramel and nuts. Chocolate malts, oats, and molasses in the brew lend a sweet, yet balanced flavor. Aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels those qualities blend together beautifully. This is a rare beer you don't want to let get away.

This is a 2017 version of Kentucky Girl using Four Roses Bourbon Barrels. The ABV is 12.5% and was bottle in the first half of April. Pour is pitch black with a minimal tan head, extremely small bubbles that recede fairly quickly to leave just a ring around the edge. The smell is rich with warm vanilla, oak and dark bakers chocolate. Mouthfeel is light and smooth, enjoyable while still leaving your mouth sticky. The taste reminds me of Bourbon County. Smooth Vanilla and Chocolate flavors wash over the tongue only to coat the throat with silky bourbon notes. I don't get a much coffee with this, there are hints of it at times, but faded out for the most part. Overall a very enjoyable beer, buy two for now and for later.

This a Bourbon barrel version of FG's Coffee Girl stout. Served in 10oz goblet. Poured a solid black, just a bit of reddish translucence at the edges, with less than 1/4 inch of light brown head that had OK retention and lacing.

The base beer seemed to be very solid and provided the expected malt notes and a gentle bit of roast. The bourbon did a nice job of complimenting the beer and not over powering it. On the tongue, the story was pretty much the same, there was a nice balance of grainy stout and bourbon, with just a hint of roast, which I initially attributed to the beer. I didn't know that the base beer was a coffee beer until I was told after I had finished it. I don't like coffee, and usually can pick up even small amounts of it easily. Good job FG!

The body was smooth, even, and rich, and while perhaps a touch thinner than I like in the style, it still coated the tongue nicely. Drinkability was very good, perhaps a scoop of ice cream for a beer float would be a good idea. Overall, a very nice brew, one that's close to being a must try, and probably worth some effort to track down.
