Stopped by here on 26JAN10, on my way to Lancaster. They had a choice of two Doppelbocks; their own Big Red or sister brewery Bethlehem's Elongator. I went for the in-house brew, a 16oz offering at $5.25.
My pint glass was filled with a clear, deep amber brew with a bit of carbo here and there. Head was very thin and beige colored, leaving some lace on the glass. Nose was mild but sweet and malty, with some toasty aspects. Mouthfeel was middle of the pack: medium body and fairly smooth with minimal prickliness.
Caramel malts first hit the palate with light sweetness. Has some toffee, too, and the sugars coat the tongue nicely. Floral hops round things out at the finish as a balancing act. It's more malty, overall, though not overly complex. Still, a tasty, satisfying bier from Allentown. Prosit!!
