This IPA is slightly more amber-y than is typical. While the mouth feel is rather rich (if I didn't know better, I'd think there was rye in there), the smell is barely there, and the taste is rather thin. The taste that is there is really intriguing -- herbal and complex. But the malt base underneath is so weak, that the impact of the hops fades rather too quickly. Nice enough with food.

Pours hazed amber with a thin lasting head that leaves some strands of lacing.
The smell is of caramel, bread, mild leafy/herbal notes.
The taste is of steely caramel. A raw bitter (grapefruit mixed with aspirin) bite in the finish.
The alcohol is reasonably well-covered. It hits medium-bodied and there is some creaminess to it as it progresses (enough to give it the higher of the scores I was between on the feel).
Rather raw with a bland, bitter aftertaste, though there is plenty of caramel that lingers too. This is an unusual brew. The cascade hop bitterness is there, but the aroma and flavor are restrained - clashes more than complements. As a whole its a tough one to get through. I won't be paying $10 a 4-pack of canned pints for this again.
