Wandering through Normandy, lost, I saw a mound of spent barley. Nearby was a sign "Brasserie de la Baie". Turning the car around and stopping, I entered into a farmhouse where no English was spoken. The brewer was finishing up a batch of this beer. With my broken French, I was able to purchase a couple of their offerings.
While this bottle conditioned, this is a clear golden colored beer with a solid white head.
The smell reminds me of spent malts like the brewery floor. Earthy and raw.
The body round and full. There is little hop, and the malt is quite dry. Lots of grass and hay. This is a smooth beer with a silky mouth feel.
This beer starts off great but ends with a mild finish. As special as stumbling upon this literal farmhouse brewer is, the beer was mediocre--although perhaps quite good by the wine-drinking French standards.
