I picked up a 4-pack of this at Fegley's Bethlehem in early June. Just got back yesterday from Mexico, so I need a real beer after a week+ of Modelo and Corona. Though the Tequila didn't hurt....

Pours a clear but rather dark amber/chestnut color. Has sparse, scattered carbo and a creamy but thin head. The foam is fine, tight and light tan, with decent lace. Aroma has a nice mix of toasted malts, caramel, brown sugar and candied fruit. Body is easily medium-plus, and the feel is smooth and silky.

Flavor loads up more on malty action and then some. Is on the sweeter side without being cloying. Gots some caramel, toffee, caramelized brown sugar, plus dates, raisins and currants. This is akin to a thick slab of brown bread soaked in rum with some dark fruit jam slathered on top. This is listed as an American BW. In that genre I think of Bigfoot as the classic example. I'm not getting much, if any, hopping here, which makes me look at this as more of an English BW. Regardless, I'm enjoying it! Cheers!!

(16 oz can, canned on 11/30/22; purchased cold single from Beer Peddlers today... poured into a snifter)

L: clear, chestnut brown liquid; tight, off-white foam pad... head holds briefly then quietly collapses, razor-thin collar remains; no lace... the color and clarity is lovely

S: textbook American barleywine aromas: dried fruits, caramel, burnt brown sugars, touch of toasty-roasty cereal grains... pretty heavy on the dried fruits though, bordering (port) vinous in their highlights... hint of sherry-like (or crystal malt?) oxidation? - doesn't shake off once the senses are attuned and a'stunned by the malt madness

T: much of the same upon first sip, but with a huge caramel swell in the finish... second sip shows some initial dryness, before the rich, round, lightly-nutty caramel rolls up and settles on the palate, barely allowing that little bit of bitter and boozy spice to subtly simmer at the bottom... the fruity flames gradually come to the fore atop the caramel calamity

F: budget plush... the alcohol emits a soft heat directed diagonally up from behind my teeth, tickling the top back of the palate... surprisingly not lip-smacky, though some oils slyly slick the inner jowls

O: good... big and bold, but indistinct... 16 oz is a lot for a regular human; definitely need to share a can... ain't apeing assessment figures; is what it is (2104)

Canned on: 11-30-22

A - Deep garnet colored pour with nice clarity and dense toffee colored, creamy lacing. Carbonation is running on teh lighter side.

S - Toasted toffee and caramel.

T - A slight bit of toastiness with sweet caramel and toffee, there's also some oak and a small hit of smoke buried deep underneath. Finishes on the sweeter side.

M - Thick and light syrupy body that finishes wet before morphing to a dry finish.

O - Pretty one dimensional but solid.
