i dont reckon smoking wood was ever hurting for flavor, being one of the more intense beers out there to begin with. seems odd to add all this stuff to it, but the result is pretty interesting. looks a little flat form the tap, maybe an older keg? the nose is heavy bourbon still (im sure this is not the rye version as a base), with notes of dried and possibly smoked chilies, ancho maybe, dry bitter cocoa, molasses, even vanilla and raisin, plenty going on. the flavor is still smoking wood first, big earthy sweet smoked richness, boozy and thick. the chili is subtle, just a little heat tickle in the throat, its much more about the chocolate, which is definitely sweeter in taste than it smells, but still has the bitter dark low end too. overall though the beer is really sweet, hard to drink, and boozy as can be. i like the mole flavors and think they have selected the right base beer for this experiment, but personally i dont think the original beer needed any tweaks, so this seems a little sloppy and over flavored. still a cool experiment, and if anyone can pull it off, its these guys, but there is nothing gained here. i like that the chili is subtle, and i like what the chocolate adds, but this beer has becoming quite grueling now to drink more than a few ounces of...

The beer hits with this dried herbal, medicinal note that dominates the beer. It tastes strangely minty at times. The balance the beer out, the base beer comes through with raisins, sweet caramel, toffee, an underlying smokiness, hints of burnt flavors with the alcohol coming through on the finish.

Had on tap at the Bruery. Black in color. Smell is deep mexican spices. Taste is chocolate, spices, etc. Great overall mouthfeel. Just the right amount of carbonation. The beer became much more palatable as it warmed. The spices balanced out better. Nice job
