Canned 2.4.22 and poured into a weizen glass

Pours a dark cola color with some lighter amber tones and a very attractive and aggressive sandy head. Settled into a sticky ring and mostly full cap. 4

Sweet malt, with a fair nutty aroma. 3.75

Dark and sweet initial taste. Balanced chocolate and caramel, neither overwhelming/dominating the other, and roasted nuttiness. Good lingering aftertaste as well. 4

Moderately filling and lightly carbonated body.Nice and lager-y, but I'd argue this is a Lager+. 3.75

Overall a nice meal of a beer, as I didn't pair it with anything, but wasn't left dissatisfied, and great representation of the style.4

This Ruekeller doesn’t exactly have me howling like Old Yeller, ya feel me? Like, maybe Lassie bringing you back a tennis ball - that’s what Rue Dunk is to me. It’s fine and good. And good and fine. But this is not a “Charles Dickens beer” - no, Great Expectations were not met.

See ya, my children.

*It’s hitting me a bit better as I ponder and let my mind wander. Again, not bad. But it’s good for what it’s (whatever that means, right?)

a: murky, dark brown color with some hints of dark mahogany and ruby red. maybe a touch of purple in there. large, 3 finger tan solid head

s: slight roasted malts followed by dark figs, wood, sweet berries, and lots of caramel. some fruit bread and a touch of leather. real nice aroma

t: faint roast followed by a real nice dark fruit sweetness and dark caramel. generic sweet berries and a touch of wood. some of that leather made it's way to the taste in here, followed by just the faintest noble hop kiss. big, bready and fruity backbone

m: solid medium mouthfeel, carbonation is low-moderate. a touch sticky as well

o: this is a really nice Dunkel. great harmonization and use of delicate flavors to make this well-rounded

Pours a nice carbonated black with a tan head. Nose is toffee, dank, tobacco, dark chocolate. Taste is great. Mix of wood bitterness, super dark chocolate, dark malts, char, dark fruit.

I enjoy this beer immensely.

If you are a fan of malty beers, this one will not disappoint. Hopped perfectly... IMO. I found the profile to be hopped just enough.

The beer streams a clear medium brown, darkening in the liter glass I chose. Beige head formation was solid, as was the cap that topped the clean, would-be-clear-if-not-for-color, liquid.

Nose has some dark caramel leading medium toasted grain, making this beer seem to me like it might be a bit rich for what I'd expect from a dunkel. There's also the lightest hint of tang on the edges. The first sip does show a degree of richness, but it's not from an above-expectation amount of residual sugar. The beer isn't light, but settles in on that side of medium.

My first impression were that of a thick, dark pretzel. Then, on another sip, the distinction my mind made of the grain-influenced memories was that of pumpernickel bread. Deciphering my gut impressions, the opening note is lightly pretzel-like, but the back end, especially the lingering flavor, is definitely pumpernickel.

The dry nature I perceived in the beginning of the can fades a tad by the end, as a dark brown sugar note starts to hit the edge of my palate. That said, the beer is quite malty while avoiding extra sweetness. It also has some bitterness, but seemingly the right amount to balance things quite well.
