After having a super tasty chocolate cherry walnut cookie, we decided to replicate it in beer from, because that's what we do when we love something. We started with our anniversary ale, aged in both bourbon and red wine barrels, then added more cherries, walnuts, and cacao. We think we did it justice.

375ml bottle poured into an oversize snifter
A- pours brown in color with a deep ruby hue, one-finger foamy white head that reduces to a ring around the edge
S- initial aroma is rich in cherries and red wine, followed by notes of shortbread cookies, walnuts and chocolate covered cherries. Undertones of oaky bourbon, stewed berries and a big hit of booze
T- slightly tart cherry opens it up, followed by sweet malty notes of toffee, caramel and cocoa nibs. Mid-palate brings out the barrel character, with vinous red wine providing notes of dark berries, as well as the bourbon barrel adding some barrel juice and vanilla. The finish gives some nutty undertones, as well as a shortbread-like flavor that was similar to the aroma. Lingers of malty caramel, stewed cherries and booze
M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly viscous mouthfeel that turns slightly creamy into the finish
O- the wine barrel seems to really enhance the cherry in this one, with the bourbon barrel popping through as well, very good

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep ruddy brown beer which is topped by a finger of dense and rocky finger of light tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass
S: Smells of walnuts and chocolate with notes of red berries and bourbon barrels
T: Taste is walnuts and chocolate up front before some cherries, red berries from the wine barrels, vanilla, caramel, and a nice drying oak comes in. Really nice red wine presence on the mid palate as well. On the swallow there's more walnuts, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, cherries, and more lingering oak with another smack of flavor from the wine barrels
M: This beer is on the heavier side of things with a slightly syrupy feel on the palate. Carbonation is on the low end but is still adequate for the style while the beer has a slightly drying feel on the palate.
O: Overall this beer is pretty awesome. There's a lot going on and I don't know if the dual barrel treatment was really necessary on this. It still comes off well, but at times seems to be slightly disjointed due to the spectrum of flavors.
