Beer Name: All The Cows
Brewery: The Bruery
Location: Placentia, CA
Style: Bourbon Barrel Aged Milk Stout
ABV: 13.7%
Date: 01/23/2021
I served All the Cows in a Tulip glass at 50 degrees. The pour created an airy, dark brown, two-fingered head with average retention. The beer is dark brown, nearly black, and opaque, measuring around 38 on the color chart. The dissipation left some lacing on the glass. The beer's appearance is average for its style.
When I sniff the glass, I initially smell roasted malts, chocolate, bourbon, and vanilla. Nosing the glass again, I detect coffee, wood, and caramel. I tried to pick out other aromas, but it was fruitless. I can decipher more from the glass.
The flavors are more pronounced than the aromas. I taste lots of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and oak. Sipping the glass again, I notice dark roasted malts, coffee, wood, caramel, light molasses, a milky creaminess, and some earthiness.
The mouthfeel is warm, and the finish is creamy and smooth. The body is full and has medium carbonation.
That is not expected; I am expecting something else from The Bruery. Generally, the ABV creeps up on you, and the milk stout is silky smooth. Drinking a few glasses, you find yourself with a good buzz. This beer is not the case here, the ABV is hot and not in a good way. The base stout is missing. I wanted more aromas from the nose, too.

2021 Vintage
16oz can poured into a snifter
A- pours black in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that reduces to a ring around the glass
S- aroma is predominately milk chocolate, caramel and lactose, which emphasizes a creamy vanilla note. A hint of marshmallow and roasted malt to close it out
T- sweet milk chocolate up front with some creamy lactose, vanilla and a hint of caramel. Mid-palate gives some roasted notes that pops through the sweetness, as well as a hint of marshmallow. The finish gives more lactose sweetness, with the barrel note coming through, adding some oak on the linger
M- medium-heavy body with medium carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns creamy into the finish

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours jet black with a thin layer of brown head. The nose is pretty awesome. Chocolate milk, marshmallow, vanilla, and a hint of roasted malts. Not really getting much of the bourbon barrel here.
The taste follows the nose. Thick, creamy, milky. Chocolate, fudge, vanilla, marshmallow, biscuits, maple, brown sugar, and a bit of toffee. Very nice, but a tad one-dimensional. I would like to see a bit more base stout come through.
Mouthfeel is thick and creamy.

16oz can. Poured out an opaque, oil-black color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left minimal lacing on the glass. It smelled of bourbon, oak, vanilla, milk chocolate, and rich vanilla. Big, bourbon taste with charred oak, vanilla, toffee and sweet chocolate.

Look: very dark brown. Big mocha head on the pour that mostly recedes. Some oily, messy lacing that doesn’t cling for long.
Smell: vanilla cream latte. Very subtle bourbon and barrel.
Taste: like the nose. Super easy drinker.

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a lively and slightly rocky two finger dark tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of hints of vanilla and roasted malts with a touch of barrel.
T: Taste is fairly vanilla forward before some marshmallow like sweetness comes in with a touch of roasted malts, oak, a little chocolate, and a touch of coffee. On the swallow there's more vanilla, marshmallow sweetness, roasted malts, oak, coffee, and chocolate
M: This beer has a pretty full body with a silky feel on the palate. Carbonation is there and is adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish due to the ABV.
O: Overall this is a really solid offering. The flavors and complexity are good but it tastes like the base beer is somewhat muted behind the lactose sweetness, barrel, and vanilla.
