On tap at the Good Life - a black-bodied beer with a finger of dark tan foam... Lotsa of rich sugars and dark fruits bathed in bourbon notes - reminded me of their Anniversary old ales - a real nice sipper...

32 oz. growler. Pours deep brown with only a thin collar. Smells of various barrel characters. Some bourbon, some brandy, some light sherry notes. And some brown sugar sweetness. Tastes of oak right up front with a strong alcohol flavor. Brown sugar, caramel, whiskey, and tingly dark fruit notes. Heavy, sweet, slow to drink, of course. Works well in small quantities.

On tap at The Lark, it pours pitch black color like a glass of motor oil that had little to no head and left pretty much no lacing. Smells of caramel, molasses, brown sugar, dark rum, cocoa powder, cola syrup and fermented dark fruit. Not too boozy, but pretty basic at the same time. Flavor is very similar to the nose with everything listed above plus stronger malty notes, vanilla, chocolate donut and fresh cut grass. It seems barrel aged as it gets more complex when it warms, but can never completely hide the ABV. A very nice slow sipper that was really flavorful and was a fine drinking strong ale, not harsh to take down.

look: Dark ruby. Modest tan head on the pour that almost entirely recedes.
smell: Rich brown sugar and molasses. Vanilla and bourbon.
taste: Wow, fantastic melding of all the flavors in the nose. A little warming in the belly but no hint of the high abv in the stellar taste.
