Cherry, vanilla, oh my! We fermented our blonde barley wine with plump Montmorency cherries sourced from Michigan and laid it all to rest in bourbon barrels. After months of aging, we added even more cherries and top-quality vanilla beans. The result is a smooth, rich, and balanced melody of tart cherry and creamy vanilla.

375ml bottle poured into a tulip
A- pours brown in color with a ruby hue. One-finger foamy off-white head has short retention
S- plenty of cherry on the nose, reminiscent of cherry pie filling. Undertones of vanilla, oaky bourbon and a hint of caramel. As it warms, it smells just like cherry pie
T- tart cherries dominate up front with notes of fresh cherry juice and pie filling. The base beer gives some notes of caramel and brown sugar. Mid-palate brings out the barrel, adding some oak and enhancing the vanilla. The finish gives more cherry pie filling that continues into the linger
M- medium body with light carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel that continues into a slightly warming finish
O- a cherry showcase that balances sweet and tart, outstanding

A: Poured into a snifter to a slightly reddish brown beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger and a half of light tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells kind of like a cherry cobbler with some big cherry notes, vanilla, oak, and some caramel.
T: Taste is tart cherries and vanilla with some caramel and oak. On the swallow there's more tart cherries, vanilla, and oak. It tastes like there are some hints of warming spices at times but that could also be my brain playing tricks on me.
M: This beer has a body which is slightly silky and on the heavy side of things. Carbonation is slightly effervescent while the beer has a drying finish due to the ABV.
O: Overall this beer is really neat. The huge cherry and vanilla flavors make this a really fun beer to drink while the base beer plays a bit of a supporting role. It does flirt with being one note and lacking dimension, but there is some complexity there if you look for it. I'd like to see this one become a regular.

Poured from bottle into Bruery snifter. Deep reddish brown. Opaque with some sediment swirling. Smell is deep cherry. Flavor is a punch to the salivary glands with cherry. Sweet, but not overly. As it warms, the vanilla kicks in and lets you know its there. Medium to thick mouthfeel for a barleywine. Overall, this is an outstanding barleywine that I'm looking forward to having again.
