Cherry Blawesome is next on the review table. Served at 48 degrees. The next series of beers will be the donut box by the Bruery, followed by more Bruery beers. My last blonde stout was terrible; this one surprised me. I have consumed several of these, and they were terrific. A frothy and airy two-fingered light reddish tan head with above-average retention was created from the pour. The dissipation left bits of lacing on the glass. Using the standard charting method for beer, this one is around SRM 18 dark brown with reddish hues. The clarity is somewhat cloudy, with a few carbonation bubbles. The appearance is average.
Nosing the glass, I smell toasted bread, cherries, vanilla, caramel, alcohol vapors, light raisins, oaky oranges, a hint of char, and soft toasted cereal grains. I could not detect the graham crackers. Unsure of the standard for a blonde stout, the aromas are inviting, and the smells are far superior to the last.
The tart cherries created a unique path to the other flavors. The toasted bread, lightly toasted crackers, caramel, vanilla, and light raisins tempered the tartness. Sipping the beer again, I taste oak, cereal grains, a hint of floral, and a touch of smoke. I would not equate this to a donut, but I want to try the donut.
The mouthfeel is warming, chewy, and tarty, finishing dry. The body of the beer is medium-plus and has a medium carbonation.
The tart cherries have always been the star of this beer, with the other flavors tempering the acidic punch to the palate. The age of the beer has created more depth yet has not feathered out the alcohol warming. Sadly this is the last of this beer. Glad I got to sip them; new, a year old, two years old, and now three.
