Double barrel-aged imperial stout with banana, toasted coconut, cacao nibs, and Tahitian vanilla
Pat yourself on the back- this fan-favorite returns thanks to the feedback from you, our Society Members. First released in 2021, 2econd takes decadent inspiration from German chocolate banana cake. We started with our base stout recipe, Bayonet, and layered in a rich blend of banana, toasted coconut, cacao nibs, and Tahitian vanilla, while we elevated it with two rounds of aging in bourbon barrels and rum barrels. You’ll be sure to enjoy our take on this sweet confection.

2024 vintage
A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger and a half of like tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of coconut, chocolate, hints of banana, vanilla, along with some roasted malts and bourbon barrels
T: Taste is coconut, chocolate, roasted malts, some banana, oak, and a ton of vanilla along with some caramel from the bourbon barrels. On the finish there's more vanilla, coconut, oak, roasted malts, a little banana sweetness, and lingering chocolate.
M: This beer has a body which is on the fuller side of things with a slightly syrupy feel. Carbonation is lightly effervescent and adequate for the style while the beer has a slightly drying finish.
O: Overall this is really nice. It has great flavors and a good amount of complexity. It tastes like another ice cream inspired beer and the finish reminds me of chocolate syrup mixed with melted vanilla ice cream. Definitely worth a try, but very sweet.

From the 750 ml bottle in a snifter. This wild imperial pours a pitch black with a
modest head of fizzling foam that settles to a razor thin ring with some nice legs.
Nose of coconut, banana, dark chocolate, vanilla, cream, coffee, toffee, and mellow
bourbon. Flavors surpass the nose with aplomb! Coffee and dark chocolate dance
about bourbon, toasted coconut, toffee, oak, and rich vanilla. Dark berry notes
show with warmth of blackberry and blueberry as well as caramelized banana
dashed in dark brown sugars. Mouth feel is full, smooth, rich, coating, warming,
moderately slick, and finishing sweet and wit a dark chocolate finish.
Overall, a well balanced dessert brew done right by the masters of flavor blending!
Cheers

750 ml bottle, 2024 edition, bottled 07/10/24. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that didn't stay around for too long. Small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like vanilla, cacao nibs, bananas, coconut, rum, bourbon and some roasted malt. For the most part I think the taste is just like the aroma, but there's also some dark bread, brown sugar and oaky flavors noticeable too. Taste leans sweeter for sure, and it's a bit boozy but doesn't quite seem like it's 17.1% ABV either. Mouthfeel/body is full, its slick and a bit syrupy with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was pretty good overall, although I do think I would have liked it more if it was less sweet tasting. With that being said it's worth a try if you get the chance!

2ecound pours an almost black with not much head. The aroma is filled with vanilla and coconut. The flavor has small bites of banana, then lots of vanilla and toasted coconut. Good fell. Overall, a sweeter stout packed with flavor where nothing is overkill.

I think we had this over at Adam's old place off Keystone after the Eclipse party. So December '21. Anyways, still the first review of this beer on BA.
Pours black. Doesn't make much in the way of headspace. Thin 1/6" brown head. The aroma hit the heavy booziness of double barrel aging, light vanilla and banana. Rum seemed to be more prominent than bourbon.
Taste was decent for something this big. Them bigs, sometimes they hit amazingly, sometimes I'm just all tuckered out on the booziness. This came at the end of a long day of drinking, so maybe I was just over it. Just no getting around that rum heat and somewhat surprising bitterness. The coconut had a lot to compete with. Chocolate notes seemed bigger than coconut. Bourbon didn't resonate like it usually does. Doesn't have much in the way of roastiness with all the pastry stuff going on, but the bitterness was up there.
I dunno, it seemed like a hot sipper. We still have another bottle, we'll see how that goes.
