Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with strawberries, cacao nibs, and Madagascar vanilla beans
Black Tuesday is the perfect canvas for creativity in liquid form. Scoop Scoop Scoop was inspired by classic Neapolitan ice cream: chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, swirled together in perfect harmony. Why pick just one flavor when you can have a triple-scoop trip down memory lane? This decadent imperial stout was aged in bourbon barrels then treated with rich cacao nibs, fresh strawberries, and Madagascar vanilla beans for a tasty treat, Black Tuesday style.
Tasting Notes:
The fourth and final reveal in this year’s Small Batch Black Tuesday treatment series, crafted exclusively for our Society members, is Scoop Scoop Scoop, inspired by the familiar flavors of Neapolitan ice cream. We treated this beer with rich cacao nibs, strawberries, and a hefty scoop of Madagascar vanilla beans. Scoop Scoop Scoop pours a black color with just a tinge of ruby, with notes of strawberry blossoming out of the glass upon first pour, instantly reminiscent of the ice cream inspiration. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this beer is the mouthfeel— creamy, and viscous, and absolutely reminiscent of melted ice cream. The palate is met again with strawberries up front, followed by sweet vanilla notes, and a pleasant bitterness at the finish from the addition of cacao nibs. Pour into a glass, or maybe pour over a scoop of ice cream, and definitely share with friends.

Many times I drink one this dark and heavy and don't end up finishing it. I had no issues finishing this one.
I get big notes of maple, and toffee. It's sticky. Someone said it reminded them of motor oil and jet fuel.
I actually think it did a really good job of hiding the rather high alcohol content.

Style: Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout

I opted for a five-year-old cellared beer from the Bruery. I am using a stemless glass and serving the beer at 54 degrees. The pour created a frothy, foamy, one-fingered light tan head with below-average retention. The quick dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The beer's overall appearance is average for this style, especially given its high ABV. I was expecting better head retention, given that it's from The Bruery.
Nosing the glass, I notice roasted malts, vanilla, char, bourbon, oak, anise, toffee, berries, raisins, molasses, dark chocolate, medium-roasted coffee, earthiness, bready notes, and caramel.
Sipping the beer, I taste roasted malts, bready notes, vanilla, raisins, strawberries, bourbon, molasses, dark chocolate, anise, medium-roasted coffee, oak, char, earthiness, malty sweetness, yeast, and caramel.
The mouthfeel is chewy, finishing velvety smooth, with a warm ABV finish. The body is heavy with low carbonation.
Final Impression: The beer is well-made, but it is not a favorite. I do not care for beers with strawberries. The strawberries tend to taste fake; this is one of the rare cases where they don't. Still not a fan. A delicious beer nonetheless.

Black color. Thin, beige head. Chocolate, strawberries, roasted malt, vanilla, and bourbon in the aroma. Rich sweet taste with balancing roasted bitterness at the end. Warming finish. Great beer.

375ml bottle poured into a snifter
A- pours jet black in color with a one finger foamy khaki head that reduces to a ring
S- aroma is initially jammy strawberry, with undertones of dark chocolate to follow giving a chocolate covered strawberry vibe. The base beer gives that signature BT aroma, adding caramel, dried figs & booze. The vanilla bean creeps up as the glass warms, as well as light oaky bourbon barrel
T- flavor follows aroma with jammy strawberry leading the way, complimented by rich dark chocolate. Mid-palate gives flavors of vanilla cream with more strawberry emerging. The finish brings out light oaky bourbon with dark chocolate and caramel. Lingers of chocolate covered strawberries
M- medium-heavy body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a warming silky finish
O- one of my favorite BT variants, all of the adjuncts are there

Poured from a small bottle (thankfully!) at fridge temp. Pours very dark, but looks pretty thin. Definitely not a thick stout. Almost no head. The nose is really interesting. Definitely tastes like the Neapolitan ice cream of my childhood! Strawberry, chocolate, and vanill! Crazy how this smell can appear in a beer. Also getting some bourbon, molasses, and graham cracker.
The taste is actually really nice. I was very skeptical when I saw that strawberry was in this one, it isn't overpowering here. Don't get me wrong, it's clearly in the taste. However, the bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla nicely balance it out and prevent it from dominating. Some black licorice, roasted malts, molasses, cherries, graham crackers, and a hint of cinnamon. I'm shocked that the ABV really doesn't come through at all. Dang! Tastes like it could easily be 10%, not 17.8%!
Mouthfeel is pretty thin, but the aftertaste is nice - mostly strawberry and vanilla.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like dark chocolate, strawberry jam, ice cream, vanilla, and bourbon.
Neapolitan stouts are very difficult to pull off well, but as the Bruery has always been pretty good at fruited stouts, this came out well. The strawberry is sweet, silky, and lightly jammy, with a really decadent dark chocolate note, and just a hint of sweet vanilla. It evokes the ice cream flavor, somehow managing to not be too sweet in the process.
This is thick, creamy, and very drinkable for how big it is.
I like this one a lot, but I tend to be a sucker for this subset of pastry stouts.

What a damn tasty beer. It’s a big beast of a barrel aged stout, but it’s also a great dessert beer. The barrel burn works with and against the sweetness of the Neopolitan flavors. Quite strong without a hint of being thick or syrupy, all around excellent.

Thick dark brown body, brown collar that fades quickly. Smell is what the vision was going for: candied strawberry with vanilla and rich milk chocolate, backed by a bourbon glaze and lactose, though the booze is decently strong. Taste starts that way, but the strawberry is sickly sweet, bourbon then overwhelms except the chocolate, leaving an ice cream trio of chocolate, bourbon booze, and sugary molasses. Body is thinner than all in the series I have had to date, booze slices right through it. Sugars add up so fast, my dentist would not approve of this one. Better done neapolitan ice cream stouts out there

12.7 ounce wax capped bottle, 2021 vintage, bottled on 09/23/21. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with not quite an inch tan head that didn't stick around for too long. Small amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like strawberries, chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt and a bit of bourbon. For the most part the taste is pretty much like the aroma, but there's also some roasted malt, oak and dark bready flavors noticeable too. Definitely a Neapolitan Ice Cream flavor too it, but with some booziness too. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick and rich with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. Thought this was a good tasty brew, definitely recommend it to those who like Neapolitan tasting beers with a bit of kick to them.

Poured from bottle into Black Tuesday tulip. Jet black, very mild head that quickly dissipates. Smell is heavy roasted malts, bourbon, tobacco, fruit and vanilla. Flavor is heavy on the strawberry side. Creamy coating on the tongue, but sharp from the bourbon. Boozy. Chocolate hits as it warms. Vanilla is mild at best. Overall this was a fantastic variant of an already amazing beer.

They nailed the flavor profile on this one, more on the taste than on the nose. Pure neopolitan, especially as it warms up. Booze is very well hidden too. Fantastic BT variant. My favorite since Liberty Stoutwich.
