Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with raspberries and Madagascar vanilla beans
Black Tuesday is the perfect canvas for creativity in liquid form. Conner’s Cobbler was inspired by one of our very own’s passion for pastries and baking. A classic raspberry cobbler is, in fact, Conner’s specialty, so of course we named this Black Tuesday variant after him. This delectable imperial stout was aged in bourbon barrels then treated with a heavy dosing of fresh raspberries and Madagascar vanilla beans for a tasty treat, Black Tuesday style.
The simple elegance of Black Tuesday makes it the ideal canvas for adjuncts. The first in this year’s Small-Batch Black Tuesday treatment series, crafted exclusively for our Society members, Conner’s Cobbler was inspired by a friendly debate and a passion for pastries. This raspberry cobbler-inspired iteration of Black Tuesday was treated with loads of fresh raspberries and Madagascar vanilla beans. The nose is unmistakably Black Tuesday, with warming aromas of brown sugar, caramel, figs, and toffee, with a distinct sharpness from the aroma of overly-ripe raspberries. The palate follows suit with bold notes of molasses, chocolate, and licorice, laced with an enhanced sense of vanilla both from the barrel and the addition of Madagascar vanilla beans, finishing with a subtle berry tartness and the taste of fresh, plump raspberries.

Black color. Thin, beige head. Roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon in the aroma. Same notes in the taste. Moderately sweet, full-bodied. Light roasted bitterness at the end. Warming finish.

Black Tuesday - Conner's Cobbler pours a dark brown, almost black, with a very small lacing head. The aroma is sweet, and the raspberries are very pleasant. The flavor is lovely, lots of fresh raspberries, mixed in with very creamy sweet vanilla. Good feel. Overall, a great desert cobbler-like stout.

I am savoring a limited edition of Black Tuesday Conner's Cobbler. Served at a cool 50 degrees in a Jester King Tulip glass, the beer's cap released a burst of ripe, juicy raspberries. The pour revealed a captivating one-finger dark-tan head that dissipated quickly, leaving no trace on the glass. The velvety liquid, a deep brown hue bordering on black, is a striking 38 on the color chart, boasting an opaque clarity. Given its high ABV, the lack of head retention is expected. The overall appearance is in line with the style's standards.
As anticipated, the beer's aroma is a delightful medley of ripe raspberries, dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, bready malts, caramel, molasses, treacle, and a subtle earthiness. The barrel aging process adds depth and complexity with hints of bourbon, char, oak, and a whisper of smoke. The Bruery's mastery is evident in their ability to craft beers that evoke the scent of a flakey tart raspberry cobbler soaked in a delicate but robust barrel-aged stout.
The first sip is these ripe, tart, fruity, and sweet raspberries buried in a flaky pie crust. The barrel-aged stout floods my palate, letting me know this is the base beer. I taste flavors of caramel, treacle, vanilla, toasted bread crust, dark chocolate, and coffee. The barrel aging refined an already intricate beer with notes of bourbon, char, a skosh of smoke, and oak.
The mouthfeel is creamy, silky, and smooth, with some warming on the finish. The body is heavy and has low carbonation.
Beers crafted like this are a factor in why I love The Bruery. They are high ABV yet dangerously deceptive when sipping them on a chilly spring night in Idaho. I enjoyed this small batch of Black Tuesday; I wish I had more in the cellar to see if it could endure a longer-than-normal aging. I am particularly interested in seeing if the ripe raspberries become dull over time.

Black stout pour with a brown cap. Humongous full juicy and jammy raspberry dominates the nose with bourbon and vanilla supporting. OK so the taste also has the raspberry powerfully leading but vanilla is the clear second in command here, bourbon, bakers chocolate and molasses support. Not as complex as normal black tuesday, but this delivers the promised adjunct flavors. Feel is medium bodied smooth and sticky, with moderate warmth all things consdiered, but most notably it is VERY dangerous how well it hides that 18% ABV!

This one pours a very dark black color, with a dark pink foamy head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells extremely jammy and fresh, with dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, and oak.
This is an absolute raspberry blast to the face here – so much jammy, mostly sweet, just lightly tart raspberry, seedy and authentic. There’s lots of chocolate, and a touch of vanilla, too. There’s some roast and char, and some caramelly barrel type flavors.
LThis is medium bodied, not very boozy, and pretty drinkable for what it is.
In a recent tasting of a whole bunch of Black Tuesday variants, this was near the top. The Bruery does fruited stouts well, randomly enough.

12.7 ounce wax capped bottle, 2021 vintage, bottled on 09/22/21. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that fizzled away pretty quickly. Pretty much no lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like raspberries, vanilla, roasted malt, dark chocolate, bourbon, brown sugar and earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some tart dark berries, dark bread, oak and caramel flavors. Has more of a tart berry bite than I expected but does ease up some as the beer warms. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's syrupy and a bit slick with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this brew, maybe not as much as some of the other Black Tuesday variants I've had but it's still better than a lot of brews out there. Definitely worth trying if you get the chance!

Another BIF beer from @Eziel! Now we’re getting into some of the rare stuff he sent me, we have a society-only Bruery release. This is also my first of any variant or base of Black Tuesday, so I’m very excited to get into this one
Pours completely pitch black with a finger of dark tan head that quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves no lacing
These raspberry adjuncted Stouts can very easily go the wrong way, so I’m happy that the nose here is rather restrained. I’m picking up on aromas of jammy raspberry, dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, medium roast coffee, raisin, and light caramel
In taste it leans more heavily into the raspberry, but it works quite nicely. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting jammy raspberry, tart cherry, cocoa powder, hot bourbon, acidic coffee, gummy raisin, and light vanilla. The swallow brings notes of raspberry jam, dark chocolate, toasted oak, medium roast coffee, sweet vanilla, and toffee
A full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a rich and oily beer. Finishes slightly sticky but the fruity tartness cuts through
This is a fun and just straight up tasty beer. Probably the best of any fruited Stout I’ve ever had
