Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with dulce de leche, milk sugar, cinnamon, and cacao nibs
Chocolate Churriosity is inspired by the decadent duo of freshly made churros dipped in an oooey, gooey, warm chocolate sauce, commonly found in Madrid. Brewed in collaboration with Horus Aged Ales, we aged this imperial stout in bourbon barrels then loaded it with milk sugar, dulce de leche, cinnamon, and a proper dose of cacao nibs. This tasty pastry stout will have you licking your fingers and asking for more.

Draft pour at the local Bruery; dark, opaque appearance with a minor ring of khaki head. Strong amounts of boozy cinnamon and chocolate on the nose and palate with this one...spices, warmth, brownies...the body is rich and decadent, sticky and coating on the full mouthfeel.

I served Chocolate Churrisosity in a Tulip glass at 48 degrees. The pour created a creamy, airy, dark tan, one-fingered head with above-average retention. The beer is dark brown, nearly black, measuring around 36 on the color chart. The slow dissipation left a bit of lacing on the glass. The beer's appearance is above average for its style.
When I sniff the glass, I initially smell bourbon, chocolate, coffee, wood, and dark roasted malts. Nosing the glass again, I notice molasses, bready, vanilla, cinnamon, caramel, and earthiness. The beer has this lovely cinnamon churro aroma with a delicious bourbon smell.
Wow, the flavors explode in your mouth. The chocolate is dripping with bourbon. The chocolate flavor is intense and dark, with a bit of milkiness. The bourbon barrel gives char, wood, and bourbon weaving depth of character. The stout flavors are molasses, coffee, dark roasted malts, a bit of anise, and earthiness. The churro is bready, caramel, and cinnamon.
The mouthfeel is creamy and chewy, and the finish is smooth. The body is heavy and has low carbonation.
This beer is better than the original BA churro. I do not know how that is possible, but it is. It's a fantastic beer; sadly, stout season is closing for a while. I wish I had more of these beers.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours jet black with a light brown head. Nose is cinnamon, chocolate, lactose, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, and a nice spicy note. Taste follows the nose nicely. Sweet upfront with a slightly hot Mexican spice on the back end. Tons of milk chocolate and lactose. Roasted malts and black licorice are there, but they are more present on the aftertaste. The alcohol is dangerously hidden on this. Very enjoyable, but definitely sweet. Not something I could drink a lot of. Mouthfeel is fairly thick. Overall, a really interesting pastry stout.
