Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with dulce de leche, milk sugar, and cinnamon
Churriosity is a churro-inspired pastry stout brewed in collaboration with Horus Aged Ales. We aged this imperial stout in bourbon barrels then loaded it with milk sugar, dulce de leche, and an extra dusting of cinnamon. This tasty pastry stout will have you licking your fingers and asking for more

Beer Name: Churriosity
Brewery: The Bruery
Location: Placentia, CA
Style: Barrel-aged Imperial Dessert Stout
ABV: 13.6%
Date: 07/27/2021
I served Churriosity in a Tulip glass at 50 degrees. The pour created a frothy, creamy, light brown two-fingered head with average retention. The beer is dark brown, nearly black, and opaque, measuring around 38 on the color chart. The slow dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The beer's appearance is average for its style—a beautiful beer in the glass.
Nosing the glass, I smell malty, raisin, bourbon, oak, and cinnamon. I also smell caramel, chocolate, coffee, and molasses. With a few more swirls and a deep whiff, I notice vanilla and earthiness—intense caramel aromas with a lovely bourbon barrel.
The heavy bourbon barrel flavors accent the churro flavors well. The barrel aging has bourbon, char, and oak. The churro flavors are bready, cinnamon, and caramel. It reminds me of a Costco churro dipped in caramel while drinking an excellent barrel-aged imperial stout. Other flavors I noticed are chocolate, coffee, molasses, raisins, toffee, earthiness, and vanilla. Delicious stuff here.
The mouthfeel is creamy and chewy, and the finish is smooth. The body is heavy and has low carbonation.
When I poured the beer into the glass, massive bourbon aromas, followed by cinnamon, smacked my nose. I love the strong cinnamon, yet it does not come across as dusty. The Churro flavor is represented well in this delicious beer, which is perfect to sip after a long day at work.
