It’s all about the Brookie— er, cookie. We teamed up with our friend Brooke Williamson to create a liquid treat inspired by her favorite cookie of all time: peppermint-flavored creme sandwich cookies (you know the ones). We started with a rich bourbon barrel-aged stout blend and added a generous helping of creme sandwich cookies, peppermint, and milk sugar. Sweet and decadent, this peppermint-powered chocolatey treat is one for the Brookes— er, books.

I was given this beer as part of the club I was in at The Bruery. I am not a fan of peppermint, so it ought to be interesting. Pouring the beer into a tulip glass, serving it at 48 degrees. The pour created a frothy, airy one-fingered dark tan head with poor retention. Typically, beers from The Bruery have thicker, longer-lasting heads with noticeable lacing on the glass; however, this glass shows no lacing. The color is inky black, opaque, and has an SRM of 36. The appearance is average; I was expecting much more, considering this from a stellar brewery.
Nosing the beer, I detect notes of bourbon, oak, peppermint, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, dark roasted malts, bready, caramel, light Maillard, and sugary sweetness. The peppermint in the beer makes it challenging to detect other flavors; it reminds me of a York Peppermint Patty.
Sipping the beer, I taste the notes of peppermint, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, molasses, dark chocolate, and coffee. Another sip reveals bready, pastry-like, light-toasted malts, oak, sweetness, and earthiness.
The mouthfeel is chewy, finishing heavy and a bit warm. The body is thick with light carbonation.
Final Thought: I'm not a fan of this beer; the peppermint is overwhelming throughout, making it hard to detect the other flavors. It tastes like a peppermint patty wrapped in pie dough and toasted, with notes of coffee, bourbon, and oak. I wanted more balance in the beer to savor the other flavors.

750 ml bottle, 2021 vintage, bottled on date of 09/02/21. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan cola-like head that fizzled away pretty quickly. Not much lacing at all. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like bourbon, peppermint, vanilla, cream, caramel and some roasted malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some chocolate cookies, dark bread, earthy and burnt/charred flavors. Kinda tastes like what a mint Oreo cookie would be like. All the flavors seem well balanced with no one flavor overpowering the others. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and a bit creamy with a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, glad I got to try this one!

Was looking for a minty blast in the face on this Christmas Eve, but I’m just not getting it. As it warms up, I get just a tiny bit of mint on the back end. The cookies are there, as is an abundance of chocolate; not a lot of barrel.

Still a very solid BA stout, but one bottle would’ve been enough for me.
