Double barrel-aged imperial stout with toasted coconut, macadamia nuts, and pineapple

Call it a long weekend, put on your sunglasses, and take a sip. We took our bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout, Aloha Friday, double barrel-aged it for added complexity and richness, and added even more tropical flavor with fresh pineapple, as well as perfectly-toasted coconut and macadamia nuts. Full-bodied and warm, this island-paradise-in-a-bottle is smooth, nutty, and just the right amount of sweet. After all, it's Aloha Friday - there's no work till Monday. Ke aloha!

750mL bottle into a tulip. Pours an oily black with no head to speak of. Looks basically like flat Coke in my glass—which I’m OK with given the other qualities of this beer.

Aroma is rich and complex with notes of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and coconut leading the charge. Oaky, smoky char, toasted marshmallow, sweet black cherries.

Taste is all those aromas blended expertly together. The dark rich malt is bittersweet, then the booze and smoke kick in, and then the more subtle flavors wash over the palate. Lingering juicy sweetness from the pineapple. Man this is good.

Mouthfeel is sticky and thick, on point for a nearly 20% beer. This one hangs around.

Overall a really tasty, over-the-top imperial stout. Excellent.

Black color. Very thin, beige head. Chocolate, pineapple, coconut, and bourbon in the aroma. Sweet, rich taste with a warming finish. Well-hidden alcohol.

750 ml bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled 11/24/21, had 10/5/24.

Pours near black and opaque, with no head and no lacing. Aromas of bourbon, macadamia- at first, then it fades a bit, coconut, roasted malt, chocolate, some pineapple. Flavors of bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, coconut, some pineapple and oak, light macadamia. Smooth, a solid full body, appropriately carbonated.

A great recipe that’s aromatic and flavorful. Has a strong, delicious barrel presence and all the add- ins show to some degree- especially the coconut. Really enjoyable.

Wow!

It shouldn't be shocking to say that a double barrel-aged imperial stout that clocks in at almost 20% ABV is big ...

It shouldn't be a surprise that adding fresh pineapple results in a sweet beer ...

... but you might be surprised at just HOW big, and HOW sweet this is, without being too much in either direction.

The nose is super impressive, but doesn't give any impression of the additives. Rather, it's all about the massive imperial stout base and tons of bourbon - and it's wonderful.

On the palate, everything plays together almost perfectly. The pineapple is much stronger than the coconut and macadamia nuts, but that should be expected, given the contrast between the sugary, fruity punch and more subdued toasty nuts. Mostly, however, everything blends together very smoothly, the additives complementary to the overall experience.

Brown sugar, bourbon, and to a lesser extent pineapple up front; growing pineapple in the middle, along with chocolate, espresso, and caramel; moving to a back third where the pineapple is still present but now fading, leaving behind a touch of hot effervescence, notes of dry cocoa powder, vanilla, and macadamia nuts.

A beer this boozy and sweet shouldn't be this approachable. It's not quite as thick as some other massive imperial stouts (including others from the Bruery), but it's damn dangerously drinkable.

This one may not be for everyone, but it's pretty incredible to me. Fantastic and lovely; it's going to take a while to finish, and I plan on enjoying every sip.

Bottle pour - dirty black crankcase oil with quickly dissipating tan head leaving zero lacing. Nose is roasty and sweet. Taste follows with pineapple and coconut mixed with bourbony barrel wood. A bit syrupy with noticeable alcohol and sweetness lingering on the finish.

Double barrel-aged Aloha Friday with pineapple, coconut and macadamia nuts. Standard Black Tuesday consistency, maybe just a touch thicker. Definitely suggestive of a pina colada, but not overbearing; more syrupy sweetness than I expected, given the additives, but still a showcase for the base beer and barrel treatment.

Man we got into this at March Madness 2022 and holy moly was it good. This is like a double Aloha Friday. I guess NWTM = No Work 'Til Monday. "I don't have to me 'til Monday, drinking Black Tuesday variants Friday, Saturday, Sunday."

Pours black. Looks like a Black Tuesday base. 1/4" light tan head. Would have expected more of a brown head. The aroma hits more than just decadent bourbon, goes into light pastry mode. Has an appreciable coconut in the aroma, usually takes a hearty amount to get there.

The taste is pretty rich. Fancied up Black Tuesday, which is to say damn good. I didn't find the notion of pineapple to be super apparent, but it does have that tropical sweetness so I guess that is the input for it. The coconut even came through as advertised regarding being "toasted" (toasty MK sound here). The macadamian nuts are just expensive inputs as well. But it imparts a fleshy nuttiness most similar to almond.

So I definitely liked this beer. Drawback is the massive price tag on things like this. Its like $55. Like, I could order fucking 2 cases of SNPA for that much. And have way more honeys at the party.

750 ml blue wax capped bottle, 2021 vintage. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch cola-like tan head that fizzled away quickly. Not much lacing either. I like the aroma, the brew smells like coconut, pineapple, vanilla, roasted malt, nuts and some chocolate. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some burnt/charred malt, bourbon, oak and dark bready flavors. All the flavors work well with each other, and none of them seem to overpower the others. It's definitely a sweeter tasting imperial stout but not too sweet. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's coating and a bit rich and sticky with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. It's boozy, but with that being said it doesn't seem like it's 19.6% ABV. I liked this brew a lot, hopefully The Bruery will bring this one back at some point!
