On-tap at the Bruery Reserve Society 2011 Celebration

A: The pour is a clouded orange-amber color with a big, fluffy off-white head.

S: The nose is tart fruits and spices, the latter of which being one of the defining characteristics of Autumn Maple. I also get a bit of a nut shell aroma going on and a touch of metal.

T: Quite a bit of tart cherries up front with a slight chocolate flavor. Again, quite a bit of spice to the beer, retaining some of the base flavors. Somewhat acetic with drying oak on the finish and some notes of metal.

M: The body is medium with an excellent level of carbonation and a dry finish.

D: I thought this was pretty decent, but I prefer the regular version of Autumn Maple. I don't know how good of a candidate that beer really is for souring.

Had at the Bruery Reserve Society Party. Served from tap into a Bruery sampler imperial pint. Poured red-orange with a minimal off-white head. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, yams, maple syrup, sour, and tart. The flavor was of sweet malt, yams, maple syrup, wood, alcohol, sour, and tart. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty nice spin on the original Autumn Maple. It had a very nice sour note here that blended quite well with the maple and yam from the original. Also had a great aroma to back this up. A definite must try, if they ever do it again...

On tap at the 2011 Reserve Society Initiation Celebration.

A: Hazy dark orangish red with a big beige head.

S: Moderately acetic with prominent lactic notes, redolent of cherry, maple syrup, brown sugar, yams, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and oak. There's a dash of ginger. Very nice.

T: Moderately tart with big lactic sour notes accompanying a moderate acetic character. Plum and cherry are evident, as well as maple, brown sugar, nutmeg, vanilla, molasses, allspice, cinnamon, and oak. These traditional holiday spices meld well with the lactic and acetic notes.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, dry and sticky mouthfeel with evident tannins.

Overall: Good stuff.

App- Was a bit of a darker brown that I would have thought. Had some highlights of what I would peg as a burnt orange.

Smell- It still smell like a normal autumn maple. A little spice but also a little sour on the nose.

Taste- This was different in the sense you know its a sour but when you see the dark pour you arent sure. Was tasty with some off tastes to it as well being the base of autum maple.

Mouth- This is almost a full bodied beer with a twist. Was a different kind of beer than I was used to be a tad bit sour but thick

Drink- The RS party has changed my mind what sours can be.
