Bourbon Barrel and Wine Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout with Blackberries, Lemons, and Vanilla Beans
Smash the briar patch and enjoy this blackberry bourbon smash cocktail-inspired imperial stout instead. We took a fan-favorite imperial stout and aged it in bourbon barrels that previously finished a blackberry wine, bringing double the barrel-aged complexity and flavor. We then treated it with blackberries, lemons, and vanilla for a slightly tart sweetness.

750 ml bottle, 2023 edition, bottled on 02/15/23. Served in a chalice, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that stayed around for a little while. Decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, dark chocolate, blackberries, vanilla and some bourbon. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some lemon, oak and red wine/grape flavors. I think the blackberry and red grape/wine flavors stand out compared to the others, but don't overpower them either. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, definitely worth trying if you get the chance!

Muddy brown with a one finger khaki head. Nose chocolate, bourbon barrel, some cream and berries. Taste opens with some soft cocoa that transitions to some light bourbon barrel and vanilla that folds into a nice mix of tart dark berries and lemon zest. Body is light to medium with similar carbonation. Ends with a lingering lemon zest and cream. Overall an interesting beer that is nicely balanced. Not something I’d regularly want but nice to try.

Look: very dark imp stout, some cola highlights when held to light.
Smell: nice blend of stout, blackberries, lemons, vanilla.
Taste: like the nose. Very easy drinker
