On cask at the Bruery
A: The beer pours a cloudy golden orange with a nice frothy white head from the hand pump. Minimal lacing, however.
S: Smells like Mischief for the most part. Nicely hopped with excellent citrus notes as well as a pleasant floral quality. Various phenols, particularly pepper, with a touch of alcohol. There is a mild tart fruit aroma. I don't get too much of the saffron, though.
T: More bitter than I had anticipated with a decent amount of pine as well as some citrus peel. Floral hops are prominent on the palate as well and there is a lot of yeast contribution. Pepper and coriander provide lots of spice notes and there is a hint of saffron. There is a subtle tartness that seems more indicative of tamarind, though. Fairly strong in alcohol, which I can't recall Mischief having in the past.
M: Medium in body with a low and slightly creamy carbonation and mouthfeel.
D: I still prefer a good ol' regular batch of Mischief, but this was a nice variation on it. A little too bitter and boozy, though.

A: poured a pineapple yellow in color with pale yellow highlights and a thin frothy head leaving plenty of lacing sticking to the glass.
S: you could definitely smell the saffron and othe herbs alongside some spice, grains, citrus notes and very faint hop character. It also seemed to have a little pineapple.
T: the saffron and herbs were just as potent on the taste with spice, citrusy, pineapple accents but had al little booze, oaky character, hoppiness, and a touch of grass notes.
M: the brew was medium to full in body with a moderate amount of carbonation which had an herbal, spice, citrusy, mild hoppy, and oaky finish.
D: it was a pretty decent variation of the original mischief that was drinking good and was pretty tasty. I honestly like the og mischief.

On cask at The Bruery,
A: Pours a cloudy goldenrod with a medium white head, lots of lace.
S: Very pretty nose, wildflowers, grass, spring meadow, very pleasant.
T: Light breadiness, the hop flavour and perceived saffron notes come together well. Mix of herbs and grassy/earthy hop notes, a different take than regular Mischief, but enjoyable.
M: Medium-bodied, light carbonation, frothy, smooth.
D: A nice cask for First Firkin Friday. I don't know saffron well enough to completely pinpoint its flavour, but it was clearly different enough from regular Mischief to make this worth a purchase.
