It’s the imperial pastry stout of your dreams… wait, have we seen this before? Must be a dream within a dream, because Dreamception is our 2023 fan-favorite bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout, Dream Bar, aged for an additional year in brandy barrels. 12.7 ounce bottle, 2024 edition, bottled 12/06/23. Served in a chalice, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that fizzled away pretty quickly. Not much lacing at all. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like dark chocolate fudge, coconuts, vanilla, hazelnuts, marshmallows, brandy and roasted malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some dark bread, burnt/charred malt, macadamia, caramel and a bit of bourbon flavor. As far as the barrel character goes I think the brandy has more of a kick than the bourbon barrel does. Kinda wish the barrel had more of a punch, but then there is a lot going on with this beer in general. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's coating and a bit rich with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a pretty good overall brew, definitely worth picking up if you're into bigger imperial stouts!
