Barrels on barrels, as far as the eye—er, rye—can see. This bold imperial stout is an equal-parts blend of Double Barrel-Aged Black Tuesday, aged for a year in bourbon barrels then finished in Rittenhouse Rye barrels, and One & Dunn Reserve, aged first in a blend of Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels and Willet and Peerless Rye barrels then finished in Blantons and Four Roses Bourbon barrels. Roasty, rich, and deeply complex, this is one to sip and savor.

Drank from a 12.7 fl. oz. bottle purchased on Tavour
2024 Edition
02/16/24
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a shimmery, obsidian black hue. Dense and viscous, like used motor oil. There was absolutely no head nor any lacing.
The aroma was really rich, sweet and robust. Brown sugar notes came through big time. Molasses was also noticeable. There was an intense but smooth bourbon presence too. Loads of fresh vanilla bean as well. Dark fruit notes were also quite prominent. Raisin and plum specifically came to mind. As the liquid warmed, both the bourbon and the overall sweetness intensified.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose and equally impressive. Super malty and robust up front. Nice melding of sweet caramel malts and rich roasted malt notes. Brown sugar and molasses were noticeable as well. Boozy bourbon and spicy rye notes appeared as the beer moved along the palate. Nice dark fruit presence in the center. Charred raisin and dried fig notes were apparent. Vanilla was detectable here as well. Licorice came through on the back end, along with more bourbon and boozy alcohol warmth. The boozy bourbon notes lingered in the finish.
The mouthfeel was also exceptional. It was super oily and dense. Completely full bodied for the style. The liquid contained an ultra fine, subtle effervescent that tuned soft and supple on the palate.
My first bottle of Black Tuesday remains my favorite beer of all time, and this double barrel take on it definitely gives that beer a run for its money. While so many barrel-aged beers rely on adjuncts to bring things to the next level, this one is exceptional in its simplicity.

In a night filled with big stouts, this one stood alone.
The pour is dark, nearly black, I’ve seen over used and burnt motor oil lighter colored. The head almost covers the surface but quickly retreated to the side and left no lacing, but a definite film.
The taste never stops. In no particular order I got toasted pumpernickel, coffee, figs, chocolate, worn leather and some caramel. All of this coated in rye whiskey that shines at the swallow.
The feel is a nice viscosity, it tries to make me respect it and savor each sip but I had to keep drinking it. So good.
OA, I wish I could drink this once a month, but might have to be happy with the once.

Pours jet black, minimal head--what head is there quickly disappears to a mocha ring. Smells of heavy rye whiskey, smoked cherries, oak, very very faint coconut. Taste is boozy (not in a bad way), very barrel-forward, whiskey, char, hints of spent coffee grounds and espresso. This is lightly carbonated, syrupy and leans sweet but not cloying. Finish is rye whiskey (and spice), charred oak, smoked cherries, dark berries. Gastric warming. At nearly 19%, it's a bear-hug from a friend the moment you arrive at a party--it certainly isn't shy and is going to let everyone else know you arrived. Quite the sipper.

Very, very hot on the nose ... but incredibly rich and rewarding.
No less complex on the palate. Black Tuesday is a masterful beer, but this is truly something else: something elevated. Is it hot? Sweet? Rich? Decadent? Potent? Powerful? All of the above, and then some.
Notes of syrup, chocolate, black pepper, honeycomb, prune, espresso, caramel, toast, marshmallow, s'mores. It's not overly roasty; it's softer, sweeter. Delicate sounds like the wrong word for a beer approaching 20% ABV, but it's unbelievably drinkable, and really not the slightest bit hot on the palate.
This is phenomenal. It's certainly on the sweet side (perhaps too sweet for some), but without additives; it's simply a master class of brewing, blending, and barrel aging.

Black color. Thin, beige head. Chocolate, rye whiskey, roasted malt, and wood in the aroma. Malty, rich taste with warming alcohol at the end. Another good brew from The Bruery.

From the 12.7 oz bottle in a snifter via Bluejacket74! Cheers brother!
This stunner from the good Bru folk pours a coal black with a modest head of
khaki foam which sizzles away but has some mighty fine legs with a swirl. Nose of
bourbon, oak, chocolate fudge, rich vanilla, dark coffee, char, dark berry notes, and
astringent booze. Flavors are off the charts. Waves of chocolate fudge, espresso, brulee,
char, and dark berry notes of blueberry and blackberry are given a thorough drench of
rich bourbon and spicy rye that improves with each sip. Mouth feel is full, smooth, rich,
faint carbonation, warming, and finishing with a moderately sweet bitter malt note.
Of note brandy notes arise with warmth giving more depth to an already full spectrum
imperial.
Overall.....astounding, balanced, and well put together!
Cheers

12.7 ounce bottle, 2024 edition, looks like it says bottled 02/16/24. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a quarter inch tan head that didn't stick around for too long. There's a small amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like chocolate fudge, vanilla, roasted malt, rye whiskey, molasses and some caramel. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some oak, burnt/charred malt, dark bread and earthy flavors. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's rich and a bit coating with a good amount of carbonation. It's a little boozy but not as much as I was expecting for it being 18.7% ABV. Thought this was pretty good overall, definitely worth trying if you get the chance!
