Cofermented with plump blueberries and mingled with oak, our oaked sour rye ale begins delightfully tart unfolding into notes of tart berry and mellow vanilla. Like a sun-dappled blueberry patch on a summer afternoon, Into the Blue is summer in a glass.

750mL bottle (2024 edition) into a tulip. Pours a ruby coppery caramel mahogany with a 1-finger head.
Aroma is fruity and sweet with hints of oak and sour funk. Not strongly sour or acidic. Mostly sweet bready caramel malt and fruit.
Taste is definitely more sour than the nose, but it’s countered deftly by the fruity sweetness. I’m not overwhelmed by a distinctive blueberry flavor, but the blueberry surely adds to the tart quality of the beer. More oak.
Mouthfeel is squarely medium bodied, nicely balanced, soft on the palate with a nice semi-dry finish.
Overall a solid wild/sour ale. Well done.

Name: Into The Blue
Brewery: The Bruery Terreux
Location: Placentia, CA
Style: Barrel-Aged Wild Ale
ABV: 7.3%
Canned: 2024
Date: 28 May 2026
Initial Impression:
It was a great day, even if it was a little warmer than I prefer. To close out the evening, I reached for this 2024 sour that came as part of my membership allotment. Going in, all I really knew was that it was a blueberry wild ale aged in oak barrels—and honestly, that was enough to get my attention.
Appearance:
Served at 54°F in a tulip. The pour created an airy, frothy light-tan head about a finger thick with average retention, slowly dissipating and leaving a thin ring around the glass.
The beer pours a deep amber with rusty-orange hues (SRM ~20), translucent and glowing when held to the light—a beautiful presentation for a barrel-aged wild ale.
Aroma:
Expressive wild ale character layered over a firm oak foundation. Notes of barnyard funk, lemon, sea-air salinity, blueberry, spicy rye, floral esters, earthiness, and light grass emerge immediately from the glass.
The malt profile remains understated, contributing light toast, breadiness, and a touch of malt sweetness. Oak, wood, and light barrel resin add another layer of complexity without overshadowing the wild character.
Flavor:
Wild ale-forward with tart fruit and oak-driven structure. Barnyard funk, lactic acidity, blueberry tartness, lemon peel, earthiness, grass, floral esters, and a subtle saline note lead the palate. The spicy rye character adds an unexpected dimension that pairs surprisingly well with the fruit.
The malt contributes light toast, breadiness, and a restrained sweetness that keeps the acidity from becoming overly sharp. Oak and barrel resin linger through the finish, providing structure and depth.
Mouthfeel:
Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Tart and lightly puckering on the palate with a noticeable tannic structure. Finishes crisp, dry, and refreshing.
Overall Impression:
Into The Wild is a thoughtfully crafted sour with a lot going for it. The interplay between the blueberry character, spicy rye notes, and oak barrel influence creates a profile that is both unique and intriguing.
That said, the beer feels slightly out of harmony at this stage. The acidity, fruit, and barrel character haven't fully settled into one cohesive expression yet. Given a few more years in the cellar, I suspect the edges will soften, and the flavors will integrate more completely.
Even now, it's a very enjoyable wild ale and a satisfying way to end the evening. The potential here is obvious; it just feels like time will make it even better.

A: Poured into a tulip glass to a reddish violet beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky two fingers of off white head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with decent lacing
S: Smells of a ton of blueberries, a little sourness, some rye spice and a dab of oak.
T: Taste is bracingly sour up front followed up with some nice blueberry notes, oak, and rye spice with some hints of funk and maltyness. On the finish there's a ton of blueberries, some rye spice, bright acidity and some slight oak. The beer becomes much more approachable after the first few sips as the palate acclimates.
M: This beer has a body which is on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is adequate and slightly effervescent while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity.
O: Overall this is a really good beer. It has a solid amount of balance so while the acidity is a lot at first it does become more balanced after a few sips. The blueberry flavor is also on point while the base beer also provides some nice complexity to keep things from being a one two punch of sour and blueberries. Well worth a try.

750 ml bottle, 2024 edition, bottled 10/03/24. Served in a Bruery Hoarders Society chalice, the beer pours a not quite clear not quite hazy clear amber color with about an inch off-white head that stuck around a little while. Decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like oak, blueberries, vanilla and some earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some lemony citrus flavors. Blueberry flavor is pretty light here, and there's a good tart kick. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating with a moderate amount of soft carbonation. I liked this one overall, worth a try if you get the chance.

Amber color with a huge, off-white head. Lemon, blueberries, vanilla, and wood in the aroma. Sour taste with an astringent finish. A good sour but you would definitely want to share this one.

i still love the sours these guys make, even if its the big barrel stuff that seems to have take center stage, this is really sour but its also really good, on tap at their idaho location, still cant believe how random it is that they came here, but im into it, and the beers have been really fun lately. this is stained glass pink and quite fizzy although it doesnt hold much head. mouthwatering in the nose, generic berry behind heavy sourness, acetic and vinegar forward to me, red wine vinegar specifically, not sure i smell rye malt, but there is a lot of oak on this, some funk too but more bacterial than anything else, mature and piquant, lemony, with the red berry thing adding just a little juicy sweetness. more directly blueberry in the flavor, natural and somewhat tart on their own, skinny, with notes of other fruits wrapped up with them from red currant to pinot noir, this is tannic and sharp immediately, bracing at first and i never quite get all the way used to it. striking each time. light vanilla from the oak, maybe a little rye spiciness but thats not a huge factor for me with this i dont think, maybe serves to dry out the back end a bit. the fruit profile is lovely, the sourness is over the top, and its not all the way together i dont reckon, like not one of the best beers these guys do, but they are dramatic flavors and textures and this sure is interesting, gets even more intense as it warms up some. red florals, vanilla beans, red wine, like mustiness, intense lemon, fine carbonation and lighter in body than i expected it to be but the sourness is high enough that a little of this is enough. neat blueberry, lots of wood, playful and good, those who love them especially sour should seek this out!

Purple/red pour, no head or lacing really - strong sour characteristics, not just the blueberries but they're there as well, the sour rye barrel is apparent, tart and puckering with a quick finish.
