Double Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout in collaboration with Westward Whiskey

This rich imperial stout celebrates all of the complexity and decadence that barrel aging brings. After a first round of aging in house bourbon casks, Moonlight Still rests in Westward Whiskey's American Whiskey Barrels to develop even greater complexity. The end result? A smooth flavor profile with notes of toasted fig, barrel char, and dark chocolate. Enjoy its versatility - whether kicking back solo or enhancing Moroccan stew, this stout means flavor.

750 ml bottle, 2024 edition, bottled 11/13/24. Served in a Bruery tulip, the beer pours dark brown/black with not quite an inch tan head that stuck around for a little while. Small amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like figs, vanilla, whiskey, plums, roasted malt and some dark chocolate. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some burnt/charred malt, dark bread, and a bit of molasses flavors. Good amount of barrel character here. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick and a bit creamy with a nice amount of soft carbonation. It's a bit boozy for sure, could probably use a little aging but it's tasting pretty good now. I liked this one a lot, definitely worth trying especially if you like big barrel aged imperial stouts!

Pitch black pour with a tiny brown ring. Huge barrel in the nose with fig, chocolate, molasses, plums, and vanillins contrasted with earthy char. Upon tasting it is clear this is a boozy bad ass of a stout, but honestly it’s the emergent barrel character that comes through with warm, toasty wood dipped in molasses and some vanillins, that really shines through, enhancing the fig, chocolate, pipe tobacco, and a hint of boozy sticky toffee pudding. Feel is very warm, barrel driven, and yet the crazy high abv is kept in check all things considered, massive stout with chew. Dead of winter my friends is the time to break this out of the cellar

Bottle. Tan head that fades. Dark brown color.

This is borderline a cocktail/spirit. Very strong, boozey. Bourbon, oak, char, vanilla, fudge. Molasses, tobacco, dried dark fruits, figs.

Tough to rate this one. It doesn’t pretend to not be strong. It’s very good. It’s very flavorful. It’s just a giant sipper.
