Double Rye Barrel-Aged Smoked Barleywine Ale
Some like it hot - we like it twice barreled. This smoked barleywine ale spent a year in Graton rye whiskey barrels before embracing a second round in Rittenhouse rye barrels. The barrels and specialty malts bring forth aromas of spice, smoke, and toffee, with a malty vanilla finish that lingers like a campfire story. Pair with truffled mac for peak decadence.

From the 12.5 oz bottle in a snifter with a BIG thanks to Bluejacket74! Cheers Dude!
This solid barleywine pours a muddled dark brown with a modest head of khaki foam that
sizzles to a razor thin ring with light legs. Nose of smoke, oak, whiskey, dark fruits, caramel malts,
and toffee. Flavors surpass the nose with a giant melange of flavors. Mellow smoke drapes
about dark berry notes of blackberry and raspberry while whiskey and oak make merry
with dates, vinous wine notes, toffee, subtle tobacco, rye, and light vanilla. Mouth feel
is full, smooth, rich, light carbonation, and a faintly dry finish.
Overall, some smoke brews go too far, this one is nicely dialed in. Flavors expand nicely with
warmth and begs for a fireside! Exceptional balance!
Cheers

Smoking Souls: Twice Burned pours a dark brown with no head. The aroma is smoky, with notes of sizzling bacon. The flavor is sweet, smoky, and earthy, with hints of smoked meats, then a massively sweet sugary finish. Flat feel. Overall, very flavorful, with a nice mix of smoke and a good barleywine flavor, but so lovely at the end.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2025 edition, bottled 01/17/25. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a mahogany brown color with some ruby red tinges. There's about an inch tan head, head retetnion and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like caramel, toffee, rye whiskey, smoke, dark fruit and some vanilla. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some oak and dark bready flavors. Good amount of barrel character, a little more so in the taste as compared to the aroma. Smoke flavor is noticeable but was hoping for more of a kick. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick and a bit rich with a good amount of zippy carbonation. Wish the carbonation was dialed back some. I liked this one overall, worth a try especially if you like rye barrel aged and smoked brews.
