Bourbon Barrel-Aged Ale with Apples, Honey, Pretzels, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Vanilla, and Salt
Who needs a fork when you can drink your dessert? This bourbon barrel-aged treat captures the essence of salted honey apple pie, complete with pretzel "crust" and spices. Sweet honey mingles with caramel apple and baking spices in this decadent liquid masterpiece. Pairs perfectly with spicy sausage rolls – or another slice of pie.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2025 edition, bottled 02/17/25. Served in a chalice, the beer pours a dark reddish/brown color with about an inch light tan head that didn't stay around for too long. Small amount of lacing. Aroma is mostly sweet, the brew smells like cinnamon, apples, nutmeg, vanilla, salt, honey and some bourbon. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some pretzel breadiness. All the flavors seem well balanced to me, as no one flavor overpowers the others. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit slick and syrupy with a good amount of carbonation. Still a little boozy too so maybe a little more age wouldn't hurt this. I thought this was a good overall brew, worth picking up if you get the chance!

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep brown beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger and a half of light tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of drunken apples with vanilla and some hints of bourbon barrel.
T: Taste is sweet apples and honey up front with some cinnamon and nutmeg providing some warm spice notes, a little vanilla, and some bourbon barrels with some toasted bready malt. On the finish there's a slightly salty note with some toasted malts, a little more vanilla, those warming spices, sweet apples, and lingering bourbon barrels.
M: This beer has a body which is on the heavier side of medium. Carbonation is slightly effervescent and adequate for the style while the beer has a fairly refreshing finish despite the high ABV.
O: Overall this is pretty great. Really nice complexity and not a ton of heat despite the high ABV. All the flavors are there and they play pretty well together. Nice balance as well. Apples are strong but not too strong. I wouldn't mind seeing this become a rotating offering.
