Dive into the dark side with Tart of Darkness: Cherry Nocturne. This bourbon barrel-aged sour stout bursts with black cherries and vanilla. Aromas of cherry, dark chocolate, and vanilla lead to a tart, medium-bodied taste. Perfect with grilled sage chicken thighs.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2025 edition, bottled 10/08/25. Served in a Bruery Hoarders Society chalice, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch light tan head that stuck around a little while. Small amount of lacing. The brew smells like black cherries, vanilla and dark chocolate, don't pick up any bourbon in the aroma. Taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like tart and sweet black cherries, vanilla, bourbon, dark chocolate and some oakiness. Tartness is there but wish it was kicked up a notch or 2, and I could say the same about the bourbon. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's creamy and a bit slick with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was good, but it could have been better too. With that being said it's certainly worth a try!

Appearance: Pours jet black with a beige head that lingers.
Aroma: Bright and fruit-forward, with prominent notes of sweet cherries, chocolate, and a touch of vanilla.
Taste: Surprisingly tart, with cherry and dark fruit flavors taking the lead. Hints of chocolate and vanilla add depth, but the acidity dominates, steering it away from the roasty profile expected of an imperial stout.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. The tartness adds a fresh edge.
Overall Impression: While the label calls it an imperial stout, its character leans heavily into sour territory. Still a good beer -especially for fans of fruited barrel-aged hybrids.
