Blended Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout and Agave Wheatwine Ale with Lime, Vanilla, Nutmeg, and Graham Cracker
Thomas, winner of the 2025 Hoarders vs Reserve Blending Competition, had a vision for key lime pie, and delivered! Team EngiBeers united barrel-aged imperial stout and agave wheatwine ale with graham cracker flavor, lime, vanilla, and nutmeg. A sweet, full-bodied delight.

This beer is insane. I have to rate it pretty high because it really does nail all the flavors that it purports to be. It’s just such a wild mix of flavors that I’m not sure I’ll be able to get all 12.7 oz down.
The lime is at the forefront and pretty much leads the entire way, but everything else is present as well including the subtle graham on the back, and the barrels are definitely present (thankfully).
Very interesting idea executed very well; I just don’t know that I’m the target audience, even though I consider myself pretty adventurous with flavor combinations. Maybe I’m

a truly insane little bottle of beer here, so strongly flavored i couldnt even believe it, one of a kind, the type of thing we expect by now from these guys, but this one still caught me off guard. its modeled on key lime pie apparently, a big barrel aged stout at the core of it, but with agave wheatwine blended in, which i think i remember from some other beers they do too, then lime, vanilla, nutmeg, and graham cracker flavor, which i guess is something different than actual graham crackers? massively unique, massive and unique, its huge. its so rare to have this much of an adjunct come through in a beer like this, maybe vanilla sometimes, dosed to oblivion, has hit with this intensity, but for a fruit? this is wild to have it come through so much, more lime than stout to my palate in this somehow, mental. nice dark viscous high shine pour, leggy and rich looking as expected, less still than some with a short tightly packed mocha head on it. the nose teases what the flavor brings, but its a little more in balance, zesty natural lime but pushing perfume intensity, pie elements with the cracker crust and the subtle warming nutmeg, not too much vanilla, hints of molasses and cola in the stout, some grain complexity but i dont think many could place agave or wheatwine specifically in this aroma, its stout base first before its wheatwine in the glass, for sure. the flavor just ratchets up a bunch of notches, the lime is completely over the top, supercharged and very powerful in this, too much for sure, but intriguing enough in a big base beer like this to be majorly compelling, fresh and natural if not for the dosage, vanilla supports it well and the heavy sweetness of the base beer is a nice contrast to the parts of the lime that come through as bitter and acidic, which is not insignificant in this. i think i get more from the agave here, along with some general grain complexity overall, still plenty of roast, cocoa, espresso beans, and the vanilla weaves it all together pretty well. the lime is just so intense, its crazy, almost a cocktail vibe to it with all the alcohol this comes with, some oak here, way back whiskey, but the lime adds a cool freshness to an otherwise real mature blend, so unique! never had a beer like this, and a little bit is plenty, but its downright delicious. the nutmeg is a cool wrinkle, seems fresh gated, the lime is so forward it seems impossible, and the graham cracker thing works. i have to say, this is way original, and where i generally shy away from the hugely flavored stuff, this is just a ton of fun. love it or hate it, but it commands respect. like nothing ive ever had before...
