473 mL can from the LCBO; dated May 5 2025 and served slightly chilled.
Pours foggy and translucent, its pale yellow-hued body topped with nearly two fingers of foamy white head that sizzles off within a couple of minutes. A thin collar and filmy cap are the only survivors, with scant lace production - looks good for a radler. Grapefruit, lemon and lime zest on the nose, interrupted by hints of doughy, grainy malts and a very subtle whiff of tequila.
It's a decent radler, but I would've preferred more of a tart punch out of the citrus ingredients - this leans decidedly toward the sweet side. Doughy malts and graininess come through, together with yuzu and grapefruit; lemon, lime and agave syrup sweetness on the back end, with yuzu lingering into a citrus-sugar aftertaste that fades quickly. Light-ish in body, with aggressive carbonation that remains prickly right down to the last couple of gulps. A smooth, easy-drinking light beer with broad appeal.
Final Grade: 3.61, a B grade. Cosmic Citrus Radler was fun to try, in that it's quite different from most of the other radlers I've had over the years. Unfortunately, it's not tailored towards my preferences. I suspect my lack of enthusiasm is at least partially related to the use of agave syrup: it's a subtle presence, but I loathe tequila, so even a subtle presence is unhelpful. It also seems to be responsible for the sugary-sweet lean of this radler's profile - more grapefruit might've helped balance that out. It's worth a shot if you enjoy sugary radlers, but sadly I do not see myself revisiting this all that often.
