Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Clear 15.25-oz. pilsner
From: Grocery Outlet in Allied Gardens (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $3.99
Purchased: Aug. 10, 2018
Consumed: Aug. 10, 2018
Reviewed as: American Pale Lager
Misc.: Bottled on March 28, 2018
Picked this up on a whim on a trip to my normal Grocery Outlet spot in Allied Gardens. Was looking for some deals and saw this 22-oz. bomber for $3.99, down from $6.99 I believe (if not $6.99, then $7.99). I never quite know what to call the Mexican Style Lager. Mostly it’s American Pale Lager, but sometimes it ends up as a Vienna Lager for me or an American Adjunct Lager. Going with APL once again for this one. Bootlegger’s website calls it, “The perfect Mexican Lager. Light and refreshing, El Chango is the perfect, “drink all afternoon” type of beer. The Lager is brewed with a light herbal aroma, notes of cereal and bread to produce a smooth thirst-quenching cerveza.”
Poured a pale clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky off-white head, which dissipated rather quickly. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass at different speeds. Poor watery lacing. Very bad retention. (Sight - 2.75)
Smelled cereal, white bread, corn, skunk, trash, booze and grass. (Smell - 3.00)
Tasted about the same. Not a big fan of this one. Tasted really sweet. Got sugary grain, cereal, white bread, corn, Noble hops, grass and herbal. (Taste - 2.50)
Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, sweet finish. (Feel - 3.25)
Not a fan of this one at all. Really not something I was looking to finish or would have again. (Overall - 2.75)
