Our Belgian style farmhouse ale has a slightly spicy character, fruity yeast-driven esters and an effervescent, dry finish. A homage to our mountain gateway to the Valley.

16 oz. can.
Canned 05/13/21.

Moderate pour yields a 1/2" inch fleeting white head over a bright and nearly clear straw colored body with no lacing at all. Nose of fruit and spice with a very slight funk aroma. Taste follows nose pretty closely with a spicy finish. Nice feel and overall, a more than decent, easy-to-drink, and smooth saison from the Mad River Valley's epicenter of hops.
Cheers to the crew in Waitsfield!

This was a can only offering at the source in Vermont. Weird when the brewery doesn't have something on tap that they have canned up.

Pours golden, small white head 1/4". Its a tad cloudy, not horribly or hazy ipa like territory. Smells like belgian saison yeast. Not heavy on the spice rack or clove thereof. Some grain barley like notes. Not bad. Airy.

Taste is decent, I was able to crush the 16 oz with relative ease alongside all the other tap offerings. Well carbonated. Light lemon influence, but its mostly grain and yeast feels. I guess lemongrass would be a more accurate descriptor.

Pretty good mouth feel that has a light body and dry, clean finish. I didn't get much in the way of peppery aspect. Didn't think it was all that funky either. Was more like a mixture of a witbier and a saison if anything. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Good enough to tick and not regret it, but also not cracking their top 10 beers.

Can. Golden with rapid disappearing head. Looks like a pilsner. Cidery herbal ginger ale aroma and flavor with some light grainy malts and light cidery finish with a hint of lemon pepper. LIght body. Carb fizzes out. Totally green. Most disappointing beer of the year so far. I love this brewery. I wish I didn't buy a whole four-pack, but I figured it's Lawson's ... what could possibly go wrong. Oh well.

LAWSON'S APP GAP SAISON 10/2/19

Acquired at the brewery 9/22/19. Poured from the 16 oz. can into a Unibroue Blanch de Chambly stemmed pilsner.

a: Clear yellow/orange with a half finger white head which receded to a hint of a foam ring and no lacing.

s: The usual Belgian fruity esters.

t; Follows the nose. Mainly dry finish.

m; Light side of medium, good body and some carbonation tingle with the ongoing visual of lots of tiny bubbles wafting up from the bottom.

o: A light and refreshing Belgian Saison, well done and a good representative of the style.

Poured on draft at the brewery.

Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. The head settles into a thin ring. No lacing to speak of.

The aroma is pretty standard: Banana and clove with some faint spice. There's a hint of pear and yeast.

The flavor follows suit: Lots of banana and pear with some yeast and faint peppery spice. Nothing special here.

The feel is on the lighter side of medium with decent carbonation. Smooth, but not as crisp as it should be. The pepper spice lingers too long after each sip.

Overall, an OK saison that brings absolutely nothing new to the table. It's drinkable, it's got decent flavor, but just isn't really all that good.

A practically clear golden liquid. Mild activity and the white foam almost creates can actual head. Nothing left for foam.

There it is... The smell of almost every American Belgian-like Saison... Nothing but banana fruity and cloves! The smell of a real, authentic Belgian/French Saison is filled with complex, wild and funky yeast esters. American Saison's are painfully predictable. I love this classic style when it's drafted well.

Flavor is the same as the nose....
Mildly fruity and bland yeast charechter... Mildly funky, light malt, spicy herbs (that taste more like adjuncts than yeast funk) and spicy hops round it out. I'm basically at the point where if It see an American Brewer besides the ones that actually specialize in Belgian styles, I roll my eyes and hope for the best. So, since it was Lawson's, I thought "this might stand a chance". Nah. Wrong!

Sorry to be so harsh here, but this is a brilliant style, but if the yeast complexity and charecter isn't unique it all falls apart.
