Reviewed from long-standing notes. Had on-tap at Cigar City's tasting room. Served in a Spiegelau IPA glass.
A: Cloudy copper color, one-finger white head with good retention. Lots of small bubble visible carbonation.
S: Muted oak-barrel sweetness and mild vinous aromas over the citrus-forward and resinous hops of the base beer.
T: Grapefruit, oak, citrus, mild vinous tannins, and biscuit malts. Some vanilla and oak tannins as well. Less resin and tropical fruit hops. Moderately bitter in the hang.
M: Medium body. Maybe a little below average level of carbonation sensation. The treatment didn't increase the alcohol flavors particularly, which is to say fairly low.
O: I thought this was good. It tastes like a drier version of White Oak Jai Alai as there's still some oak contribution but the vinous tannins do come through. Nothing I'd go crazy for though - I think the base beer is better.
