CROCUS. Let's put this seasonal perplexity to rest with double IPA. Hitting with tons of mango resin and melting rainbow sherbet, Crocus was double dry hopped with Citra, Simcoe and a tropical experimental variety from Yakima. Vienna malt, flaked oats and flaked wheat provide the chew.

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 05/13/20
Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice cloudy dark golden orangy/yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, peach, apricot), pretty nice diesel like. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, peach, apricot), pretty nice diesel like. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Orange Julius! Addictive! MilkShake! Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Glad to see it around here.

L: Pours a very hazy almost opaque orange with a medium white head that slowly dissipates but leaves a small white lip of foam on top. Not the prettiest looking beer.
S: Sweet orange, tangerine, mango hit the nose right up front, smells quite sugary and sweet.
T: Sweet orange, tangerine, mango, lots of sweet tropical fruit, little bitterness, this beer is a bit sweet for my tastes.
F: Lighter than expected body, smooth mouthfeel.
O: Overall, this one is very tropical and juicy but it comes off a bit sweet for my tastes.

Pours completely opaque, cloudy bright orange color. Thin finger and a half velvety off-white head dissipates but not completely. A thin layer of foam remains with excellent head retention.
Aroma has rich notes of mango, guava, peach, tangerine, and some grassy notes on the finish.
Taste follows the nose with notes of mango, guava, tangerine, and pineapple giving way to a strong grassy herbal bitterness on the back end that lingers into the finish. Mildly sweet with light notes of honey and fruit sweetness. Has just a bit of a hop burn to it as the beer is consumed.
Feel is actually pretty light and easy drinking for a DIPA. Moderate smooth carbonation.
Overall a really outstanding DIPA from Half Acre.

Canned 6.3.20 - had from a full pint can purchased 6.19.20
Opened 6.19.20
L - Has the usual unfiltered DIPA from Half Acre look; great head, good lacing, more yellow than golden in its opaqueness. Real haze perhaps created from the flaked oats and wheat.
S - Great tangerine/orange aromas, along with serious hop in your nose; but doesn't come across as too green (cf. Sailor's Kush level of dankness, this is not - Yoda). Good tropical balance with some solid traditional hops and a DDH treatment.
T - This is where HA rules their DIPA roost: delicious, full tropical hop dank taste here, with no hop burn, gorgeously smooth without coming off as sweet or an imperial really. Which I appreciate. Full palate impact here, and lovely aftertaste of the same aromas and tropical tastes; never verges into spoiled mango or nasty pineapple, which is also great.
F - Mouthfeel is good, a little "rich" from the malt and grains used here, but good carbonation, stayed interesting throughout the whole pint and left a lovely veil in the glass and in my mouth-hole.
O - a winning haze which I really, really hope HA keeps in its seasonal rotation. WORTH IT.

Beguiling can artwork. A ram horned woman holding the sun ( a star?) in her palm, waters onions thriving and rooting into a skeleton underground. Oooo K. Can date: 3-30-20.
It pours a medium amber, murky and cloudy with an off white head that clings in clotted specks and chunks, showing good retention as the goblet emptied.
A blast of herbal and woodsy hops fills the air as poured. Sweet, blood orange and tangerines mingle with more traditional "C" hop notes of pine, spruce and unnamed wildflowers. Big sniffs reveal big malt smells of caramel and sweet rolls.
A big malty mouth feel initially makes me want more, which doesn't come as aggressive and sharp hop flavors and bittering take the wheel. It tastes like a lot of boil and mid boil hops were used here - plus the double dry hopping- makes this a hop bomb of muddled and disparate flavors. The sweetness of the malt is sugary, not rich and toffee like as the aroma suggested.
The solid medium to full body carries some of the load but this is all about the hop extravaganza and the malt just can't keep up.
The 8.5% abv is well hidden in the alpha acids but you can feel it warm your throat in a comfortable sort of way.
There's quite a bit of stuff goin' on in this beer, a must for the hoppy beer lover but for me, I could do with 10%-25% less hop all around to balance this out and let that delicious, complex malt character shine. I know they want you to drink these fresh but with this hop rate and abv, 6 months to year or more could do this some favors.

Shockingly pulpy and opaque; close inspection yields perhaps some floaties. Excellent head production and lacing; good retention. Body is a very dark yellow, tinged with orange and brown.
Sweet and juicy, albeit restrained, nose. Mango, pineapple, candied orange, very mild dankness, white bread and dough, honey.
Thick and sweet on the palate, nearly more of a triple IPA, albeit with less heat. Hoppy, juicy, but sweet and smooth as well. Very low dankness (nearly none). Honey, peach, melon, mango; almost no citrus. Huge malt base. Absolutely delicious.
Lively, full bodied, very smooth.

From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: April 30, 2020
Consumed: May 2, 2020
Misc.: Canned on March 30, 2020 at 2:33 p.m. CT
Grabbed this with a ton of others on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. It’s not often you see Half Acre in San Diego, so I jumped at the chance of having this without even reading about the beer. Only looked to see if it was somewhat fresh. Online description calls it, “Crocus Double Dry Hopped Double IPA. Ripe, citrusy-mango fruit juice and mild sweetness by way of pale malt and flaked oats, London III yeast and an abundant hop offering of Citra, Amarillo Cryo, Enigma, Vic Secret and a tropical, PNW experimental variety.. 8.5% and the color of Tang.”
Poured a medium yellow (orange) hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Could see a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. World-class uneven lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled big Citra, mango, pine, dank resin, Amarillo, orange, tangerine, melon, pineapple, wet grass, viney berry, floral and hints of sugary candy. About the same out of the can, maybe with the addition of some earthy malt. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted similar to the nose. Got mango, pine, dank resin, black pepper, orange, tangerine, melon, pineapple, viney berry, wet grass, sugar candy and floral. For hops in order got sugary Citra, Amarillo and just a touch of Vic Secret. Not too familiar with Enigma. So good. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, spicy finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Slightly underrated this overall, but this was a world-class DIPA. Glad I got to try it. (Overall - 4.50)

A: The beer is very hazy and a dark pale shade of yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high head of white bubbles that died down but left a thick coating of bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass and covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of gooseberries and grapefruit are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of gooseberries, grapefruit, and lime but is a little more rounded out with additional notes of lychee and hints of mangos. There is a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied, juicy, and a bit crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA was quite aromatic and flavorful and did a very good job at hiding nearly all of the alcohol from the taste.

16oz can, date stamped "03/30/20 DRINK FULL AND DESCEND". Thanks to Ken for giving me a can to try! Very hazy orange-peach colored body with a thick & foamy ivory head that leaves thick foam sticking to the glass. Aroma is floral orange & grapefruit and fresh pineapple. Big juicy flavors: pineapple, grapefruit, Mandarin orange, piney mango; light caramel, honey, oats, and a touch of nutty grain for malt. Full and very creamy body, some hop resins stick to the palate, moderate carbonation, bittersweet finish with citrus and a bit of pine lingering. I really like this one!
