Farmhouse Lager is a lighter version of our long-time brew, Avant Garde. It is our first foray into the 12oz bottle/six-pack world, as we have been mostly known for large format (750ml bottles). Still beginning with an initial malt sweetness and a subtle hop presence, this lager finishes smooth and crisp. Perfect for an evening out on your porch or with some fresh baked bread pulled straight from the oven.

A pretty well-done classic Central European style lager. Saaz hops on the nose- herbal, grassy, bit of tar. Quality crisp toasty cracker malt. Bit of honey and apple. Subtle floral and herbal hops. Aftertaste is more grassy. Not amazing. Not the best. But at least they got it right. A good casual beer. Quite good. I was a bit surprised because I didn’t like their Pilsner at all. This could be classified as a Czech pilsner.

(Keg at Juova, 20250109) The beer poured deep golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had grass, honey, biscuits and mildly spiciness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, herbalness, honey, grain, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was grassy, malty and bitter. A nice and clean brew with good hop balance.

Dull gold with excellent clarity. There’s a fingernail of off white around the rim and scantly elsewhere on top. Faint lacing. The aroma is of pale malt and earthy farmhouse yeast. I’m tasting pale malt. The mouth is light and refreshing.

Clear golden color; small white head. Good retention.
Sweet grainy aroma; smells like corn, barley wort, and lemon.
Sweetness upfront; lemon butter over caramelized brown bread. Has that distinctive honey malt or caramel malt flavor. Corn sweetness with some floral vibes. A slightly sweet but crisp finish.
Nice feel. Medium carb. Smooth.
It's alright. I wouldn't go out of my drink to drink it, but it's decent enough.

A lager with a saison and honey taste. Pretty good for what it is.

I like everything I have had thus far from The Lost Abby, but I would say this one is my least favorite. It is just a bit too bitter for a lager IMHO. Good flavor with a tiny bit of citrus in the finish. Good carbonation for a crisp mouthfeel too.

Clear, golden yellow body; modest carbonation; thick, dense head, white and semi-creamy; patchy globules of foam inside the glass. Warm, cereal grain scent; a hint of earthy sweetness; light esters in the background. Full flavor; hearty sweetness complemented with a moderate hop bitterness; light tones of caramel and biscuit. Medium body; smooth with a light velvety quality.
This is a well-rounded, full-body and flavorful lager. The can mentions honey malt as part of the grain bill. That likely accounts for some of the gentle sweetness and grain tones in the beer. I hope to find this beer for warm weather ahead.
Pouring temperature: 41 °F; canning info: FRESHEST 3/06/23

Spent way too much at Windmill Farms and then at North Park Beer Company, but happy with my selections. Had seen this many times in stores, so I was surprised that I hadn’t had it before, let alone reviewed it. The Lost Abbey website called this, “Farmhouse Lager is a lighter version of our long-time brew, Avant Garde. Poured an amber clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky white head. Lots of fast moving bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass in a fast straight line. Perfect layered spiderweb lacing. Perfect retention. Just a fantastic looking beer. (Sight - 5.00)
Smelled Brettanomyces up front, but it seemed to fade away on ensuing sniffs. Also got lemon zest, pear, hints of green apple, floral, fresh baked bread, sweet grain, herbal and some spoiled fruit. Nothing to add from the bottle (as usual). (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted similar to the nose. Definitely was getting that Biere de Garde taste. Probably more Biere de Garde than lager. In order got pear, green apple, lemon zest, peach, apricot, hints of banana, bitter toasted cedar, fresh baked bread, faint Brettanomyces (not nearly as much as the smell), sweet grain, floral, herbal and some white pepper lingering on my lips. (Taste - 3.50)
Light body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Long, dry, fruity finish. (Feel - 3.50)
This was a pretty complex beer. Not sure I needed a 6-pack, but here we are. Was back and forth on a few of the categories, mainly because this seemed in between styles - American Pale Lager and Bière de Garde. Very good I guess. (Overall - 3.75)
